We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D’Maric Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D’Maric below.
D’Maric, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew music was the path for me when I heard “Waves” by Kanye Ft. Chris Brown. That’s song changed my life forever. I was in college when I heard this song. I was somewhat sheltered as a kid, so I didn’t really have an updated or current roster of music. All the music I mostly listened to was stuff from what my dad told me or whatever was on the radio. I believe College is where young adults find themselves and I was really coming into my own during this time of my life. I heard the song my freshman year with some friends at the time. We were sitting in a car in an apartment parking lot, with the music blasting. As soon as Waves came on, I was overcome with this overwhelming energy. I could feel the bass surge throughout my body and the words spoke to me in a way I never experienced before. The sounds in the background were so invigorating and eccentric. It was like I could feel the song move through me. It was a weird but cool out of body experience type thing. I looked around to everyone else that was in the car and everyone was in their own little world. Meanwhile I’m gawking about how amazing the song was.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry by just simply asking and being hungry for what I wanted. I wanted my foot in the door somehow and if I had to intern then so be it. I all I wanted was knowledge and for someone to actually show me physically on how things are done in the industry. My main goal was and still is, is to become an A&R. I came across this company called “CreativeFactory”. I asked if I could intern to be an A&R, one of the owners “Christian” told me that they weren’t hiring for a position like that but would love some help around the company. He asked me if I wanted the opportunity to learn the music business as a whole which includes how to be a great A&R. So I gladly jumped at the opportunity because I wanted to be well rounded in the industry and understand every part that makes up the music business. Instead of limiting myself to specific area of knowledge. I’ve asked other people to help me out before but usually they wouldn’t respond or always wanted something else in return. So finding CreativeFactory was a breath of fresh air.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
For the people who are non creatives or practical people just need to understand that people who love creating art. Do it because they exude the love for from their heart. Passion is at the forefront for creatives, so doing what you love will and can come back ten fold with amazing opportunities and success. It may take longer and it be something that’s not always guaranteed but creatives are willing to take that risk becomes we are not willing to conform to what society “expects” us to be. Which is go to college, find an amazing 9-5 job, get married, have kids and retire. It’s so played out and boring. I feel like there’s no love or passion that comes from working in an office space. Creativity is the last thing corporate America wants in my eyes. They want structure and rules where as to art there is none of that, you can do as you please by expressing who you truly are within in whatever artistic way possible.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission right now is to keep growing and learning as a student of the business and eventually become the best A&R in Dallas. This has been my path since college, so for me to be actually doing what I love is really surreal. It can be a lil overwhelming sometimes since there’s a lot new Information I’m mentally downloading but I’m still enjoying the process. I know my future is going to take time and my determination will be tested throughout time to see if I really want to stick with this but there is no other way but up. I already see myself obtaining my goal so there is no stopping now!
