Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sara Amaya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sara , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
I would change how educators are chosen. There has to be a better way to filter out people who truly have a calling and passion to teach because I truly believe those are the people that can and will make a difference. Choosing high value educators affects how students will be prepared to chose a fulfilling life and career. We can prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career by helping students be more self aware. Self awareness can help foster resilience that will help students overcome anything that comes there way with confidence. Another thing we can do is help students first figure out what they want to do and then explore colleges that will help students thrive in the career path of their choice.
Sara , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Writer/Author and part time behavior interventionist for children with special needs. I spend a lot of time writing but I also spend a lot of time in the school system helping children with special needs improve their behavior and succeed academically. I have been writing since I was Nine years old and haven’t stopped since. I have one published book called Knox Warrior: Discovery Isles. I also have another book in the works as a sequel to KWDI. The sequel will release fall of 2023. I got into Applied behavior analysis when I was living in the orange county back in 2016 and since then I’ve had different positions all in the same field. What sets me apart from others is that I am very passionate about what I do so I always bring the best of who I am into both fields. I am also a very determined person, I don’t give up easy and I am very creative and imaginative which works best in my creative writing and when it comes time to communicate and build rapport with my clients. They need someone who understands what their world is like in order to comply with the demands placed on them. I am most proud of my book and books to come. All of my written works published or not. I have a collection of lyrics I wrote and continue to write, I can sing but I don’t play a musical instrument so I would eventually like to sell those or collaborate with an artist who can play an instrument so that I can record an album or someone else can use those story’s for their album. Writing is something I will always love doing weather it be a creative writing project or helping my clients write their ABC’s or an essay. As long as I live, I’ll continue to write, to encourage and inspire everyone who comes into contact with me. Copies of my current book KWDI can be found on amazon and Barnes and noble or you can dm me or hit the link in my bio on my IG. As far as ABA I do not have my own company at the moment but am interested in starting one and am still working on doing so.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say that the most effective strategy for growing clientele has been to be authentically myself and learning to strike up conversations everywhere I go with people. That has been an area where I have grown. I used to be a lot more shy especially back when I started writing and aba. Now that I have more experience, I have more empathy and compassion for people and their walk in life. IG is also a great way to market and grow clientele.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes there are several books that I have read over the last couple of years that have helped me change my mindset towards life and that has greatly impacted the quality of life I have begun to have. Sometimes it takes a little encouragement and tough love from others to step out of your comfort zone and take a risk. One of those books is called the six pillars of self esteem by Nathaniel Branden. The book has helped me change my perspective towards my 3D world and I have done some work on myself to get to a better place both mentally and physically. I think that both mental health and physical health play a huge role in all areas of your life. To be your best in other areas these two must be a priority.
