We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
2020 was a difficult year, personally. In a three months time period, my wife left our family, my dad died of COVID, had to fire the manager at the music store I own, had a big car wreck and had a huge insurance claim on a rental property. I also sold the married home and moved into a new home with my two kids in the same time frame. I could either rise up or fold up. Through faith, I was able to rise up and had one of my best years ever. God provided referrals and business for me while I was adjusting to being a single dad and mourning at the same time.

Have you ever had to pivot?
My background is in education. I taught school for 17 years for the Dekalb and Gwinnett school systems. I taught orchestra and and served as a local school technology coordinator for 2 years. I have three degrees in education from Georgia State and the University of Georgia. I was always taught to look for safety and security by my dad. He had gotten downsized multiple times in his career and encouraged me to be a teacher because of its security in addition to the passion I had for kids and music.
When I purchased my home in 2005, I saw how much the realtor made and realized it took me three months to make that. In addition, a church class I had attended espoused the virtues of only having one parent work and encouraged us to make a shift if we weren’t able to do that. My daughter was born in 2006 and I got my license for real estate in 2007 (great timing I know lol) I learned to persevere through that crazy market and became a HUD home expert, winning nearly ever home I bid on for my clients.
So in 2012, I left the security of the paycheck to venture on my own. That last year teaching, I had sold 23 homes and made double my teaching salary doing my “side hustle”. My side hustle then became my main hustle and I haven’t looked back since.
