We recently connected with Jasmin Acevedo and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I want LOVE to be my legacy. I want to have contributed to creating a love culture where we operate from integrity, honesty and service. I wish to create a ripple effect and showcase how the unconditional love you have for yourself not only impacts you, but your family, community, society and the world! I want to be remembered as someone who cared for the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well being of each individual that crossed her path. I want to be remembered as someone who shifted the paradigm and uplifted the culture by embracing radical self love.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jasmin Acevedo. I am a registered nurse, well-being educator, yoga instructor and owner of Four 2 Five Wellness, a wellness education platform with a focus on lifestyle medicine. In 2013 I graduated from the University of RI with a bachelors degree in science from the college of nursing. I later went on to attend graduate school at Frontier Nursing University. My plan was to become a women’s health NP/ midwife. Throughout my entire life I was always interested in functional nutrition and holistic wellness, specifically women’s health. In 2015 I became a travel nurse and worked in hospitals all over the country. I realized that many people in America were chronically ill due to preventative lifestyle choices. This also affected their mental and spiritual health. I was very interested in incorporating mind, body and spirit into wellness to prevent acute and chronic illness. After having my son in 2018, I learned midwifery wasn’t for me. I wanted to create an impact on women and families at the root. This is when I decided I wanted to open a wellness space and teach mindfulness, movement and wellness education. In January of 2020, while working in California I received a phone call that changed my life.
My sister had a stroke at 29 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. My family and I had to help her recover through brain surgery and postpartum. We also were back and forth with my niece in the NICU. After 5 long weeks they were discharged. Unfortunately all of this happened during the beginning stages of COVID and the world shut down. We used powerful and integrative healing methods to help her recover. We incorporated alternative healing methods such as reiki, prayer, words of affirmation, community, non-inflammatory organic nutrition and HZ sound healing to help her recover. This is when I knew I had to leave bedside nursing immediately and focus on preventative care. In July 2020 I opened up our physical location in East Providence, RI. This was a safe space in the urban community where you could really receive holistic healing.
At Four 2 Five Wellness we teach mindfulness, meditation, self love and preventative health practices. We host womb wellness retreats and trainings centered around holistic women’s health. At our physical location we offer yoga, dance and meditation classes for everyone. We also hold space for other practitioners to share their healing.
What is special about Four 2 Five Wellness is that it was made for us, by us! Four 2 Five was created for and by people of color living in urban communities. I truly believe our diverse experiences deserve a safe space for ALL of us to thrive and not feel judged or intimidated.
I’m most proud of the love ethic we have created within our work. Our clients leave us with a sense of peace, a sense of love, understanding and compassion for themselves and their own families. We love to see the glow and transformations that happen after classes, workshops, retreats and trainings!
Our work is rooted in the fundamentals of yoga. All of our practitioners and educators are soul led leaders. We truly value authenticity, courage, confidence, consciousness, resilience and wholeness. In order to create these safe spaces for others to thrive we must consistently show up for ourselves first. At Four 2 Five Wellness we lead by example and are here to guide you on your own wellness journey.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that love and confidence comes from outside forces. It does not, it comes from within, Self love and confidence is deeply rooted in your perception of self worth, which directly affects your business. You will never go higher than your level of self worth. Everything will meet you at the level of your self worth. Once I unlearned that, my thinking shifted and I started prioritizing my boundaries and well-being. This allowed my business to shift, it allowed me to network` and make connections with people who could assist in making the vision for Four 2 Five Wellness a reality.
