We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Esther Avant. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Esther below.
Alright, Esther thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mom passed away coming up on 12 years ago but who she was and how she raised me has shaped my entire life.
She was an incredible woman: a social worker who worked at both a homeless teen shelter and a methadone clinic, and was constantly inviting “stragglers” to Thanksgiving.
She was one of the kindest women you’d ever meet and she brought so much joy and good to the world.
I was her only daughter, only 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥, and she gave me everything.
Including something that I’ve only realized in my adulthood, was an incredible gift to give a child: 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲.
She struggled with her weight for a lot of her whole adult life and while I know she dieted and had ups and downs with her weight, she never once subjected me to the dark side of that. The negativity, self-criticism, etc.
𝘚𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭, I wonder if anything would have made a difference.
And that is why I created the comprehensive health coaching business that I own today.
If she had access to the team of comprehensive health professionals I’ve put together. If she learned there was another way to lose weight, a way that saw her as a whole human being instead of just another number to churn through the program, would it have helped?
Maybe, maybe not.
But I live everyday trying to pick up where she left off in terms of doing good in the world and I treat every client that joins our programs the way I would want my mom, sister, or best friend to be treated.
Because I know 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬.
And I know that all of our clients, like my mom, have so many gifts to share with their own kids – and the world.
And I don’t want their weight or your insecurities to hold them back from doing just that, living their lives to the fullest, and leaving their mark on the world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Esther Avant and I am a sports nutritionist, personal trainer, and health & weight loss coach who’s worked in the industry since 2007. I have owned EA Coaching since 2015. I’m also a mom of 1 and a military spouse.
My mission is to help women live their happiest, healthiest, and most confident lives and to change the fact that the majority of us are so preoccupied with our weight and our bodies that we never fully pursue our passions. I know that if more women prioritized their health, they’d be able to unleash the confidence and focus we all need to leave our mark on the world.
My team of coaches and I provide all-encompassing health & weight loss coaching to women with a lot on their plate who have put their own health on the backburner and are ready to make a change. We help them develop the confidence, commitment, and consistency they need to be successful at this (and any) endeavor by learning & mastering the exercise & nutrition “Big Rocks” that will help them get better results with less overwhelm, providing the comprehensive support they need at every phase of the journey, and helping them take compassionate ownership over the process by developing the tools & skills they need to overcome any challenge they face.
Our core offer is a 12-week online health & weight loss coaching program called Gone For Good. We’re breaking the diet industry mold and helping our clients identify and address the root issues that have been holding them back from losing weight and keeping it off – for good.
We treat our clients the way we would treat our own moms, sisters, daughters, and best friends. Because we know that change from a place of love is the only kind that sticks.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The strategy that has helped me grow my clientele most effectively has been consistently showing up and providing value in Facebook groups where my ideal client is already hanging out. I’m fairly introverted so being the center of attention has never been something appealing to me. For a long time, I felt like I had to be the one posting and starting conversations, which always felt awkward. I’ve since learned to play to my own strengths and do what comes more naturally to me: being kind, empathetic, and offering sound guidance to women already asking questions about my area of expertise.
I’ve spent thousands of hours providing support, guidance, and accountability to tens of thousands of women over the last several years and my personality and expertise have piqued people’s interest in working with me.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I think one of the most overlooked aspects of success is our mindset and how we’re thinking about ourselves, what we do, and our businesses. Many of us dwell on the negatives, the what-ifs, the worst case scenarios, and, in turn, don’t show up with the same energy, confidence, hope, and positivity that would help us be successful. Believing the best about other people and about our ability to be successful is one of the biggest differentiators I’ve seen between those who succeed and those who give up.
