We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rose Seybold . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rose below.
Alright, Rose thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I wanted my company name to be something that reflected me and who I am as wedding planner. Once I knew I wanted to start my own business, creating a name naturally became the first step. Several of my friends and family encouraged me to use my last name of “Hammers” making is something like Hammertime Events. Knowing that it wouldn’t be my last name for long, I wanted to focus on using my first name instead. One day when at my corporate job, I received a group text to help out with my best friends bridal shower. The text read “Please rise if you can help us with this joyous occasion.” My brain immediately thought, “I will rise to this occasion.’ and from there Rose to the Occasions was born!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My start in the wedding industry started when I was very young. Growing up I spent a lot of time with my aunt who ran a floral shop with her best friend in the Santa Ynez Valley. Almost every weekend they had a wedding booked and I saw them transform spaces with their stunning florals. The summer I turned 21 I moved to Alaska for four months to work at a lodge as a dishwasher. One week after arriving, the venue manager quit and I was thrown into the role of managing 1o weddings for the venue, along with being promoted to Pantry Chef in the kitchen. The lodge was incredibly remote which meant needing to be prepared for every possible hiccup weeks in advance. When I returned home to Solvang, I accepted a position at Roblar Winery handling all events on the property, including several corporate events for Mercedes Benz. Throughout my 20’s I worked in photography, catering, and florals, gaining a comprehensive look into the wedding industry. In 2017, I toured California working logistics for multiple festivals, including Coachella. Later that same year, I traveled to Germany to coordinate my best friends wedding at the castle ruins of a small village. After meeting my husband in 2019, he encouraged me launch my own business as an event planner.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think the best thing that has helped with my reputation is getting to know all aspects of events to create compassion and understanding of all the vendors involved. I make sure that photographers and videographers are being fed during dinner at wedding so they don’t miss speeches, I make sure that the DJ always has water and a soda as they can’t leave their station, and I make sure that my couples have insight into where their money is going.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The Knot and WeddingWire have been the best source of new clients for me. In the wedding industry, paying for this form of advertising is a hot button issue due to the cost of advertising. I think both sites are essential if you are a wedding vendor as it is where engaged couples are looking and they both provide social proof to couples that are looking to book you.
