We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Georgia Fowkes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Georgia below.
Georgia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I knew I always wanted to start my own company; I just never knew what that looked like or honestly what it would even fully be. I realized after so many years of chasing so many different ideas and passions yet being told I could only choose one, that, actually, I could do all of them under one umbrella if I create that umbrella myself. Once I had that thought, I immediately looked for a way to do what I love in a way that is different and stands out from the industry. I essentially looked for problems I could fix and figured out there was a gap in the market for travel marketing campaigns for creators and brands. As soon as that happened, Elation was born. I instantly had to wear every single hat possible in making a business because I had no money starting and no idea what I was doing. I remember Youtubing “What are the first 5 steps in creating a business” haha.
Georgia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I am originally from Pittsburgh! I started in front of the camera acting as a child on little gigs here and there. Absolutely loved it and another dream of mine is to one day be in a feature film and win an Oscar. I then switched behind the camera because I was so curious how they made movies and TV shows so good. Fell in love with that and then my dream became I want to star in a feature film but also want to produce and direct one, haha.
I then switched to the music industry for a bit and produced a lot of festivals in Los Angeles.
Since then I have been a travel content creator for years now, and my true passion is creating and storytelling. I love bringing people’s happiness to life through the camera.
Prior to Elation, some of my notable experiences from jumping around the industry have been with The Television Academy Foundation at Abrams Artist Agency, Sony Music creating Social Media campaigns for their RED Music label, and traveling around the United States helping produce VIP departments at Music Festivals for Insomniac. I also have picked up photography, became a drone pilot, and much more in between.
My proudest accomplishment would probably be starting a company because it takes so much resilience and dedication to keep going even in moments where you have no idea if you’re doing the right thing because no one can give you the answers.
I would say our goals is to connect with even more brands to work with and tourism boards!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I feel like I have to constantly learn and unlearn trusting people in business. It is very hard to let control go of your baby you’re building and then something not work out or go as planned and have to relearn to keep trusting even if previous experiences haven’t worked out.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Haha, it’s actually a funny story. I met my cofounder on Bumble! Lol.
