We recently connected with Jude Wallace and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jude thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am so unbelievably happy being a creative and an artist. I couldn’t imagine life any different. It actually wasn’t until recently that I stepped away from my full-time job in order to pursue music full-time. I honestly wish I had taken that risk so much sooner because my life feels so much more fulfilled working on my music career. I was so unhappy with my life when I wasn’t putting music first. Life is so unbelievably beautiful, but it is also unpredictable and so short. Everyone should be able to pursue their passions and their dreams fiercely and never give up on them. I feel very fortunate and blessed to have known at a young age that I wanted to be a singer, songwriter, and performer, and I’ve always felt that I needed to be for me to be myself. My lust for music and need for musical expression is something I’ve always felt deep in my soul, spirit, in my bones, and in my heart. This is what I was born to do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My artist name is Jude. This name was actually inspired by my dad because it was his middle name. He passed away shortly before I was born, but he was extremely gifted at singing and songwriting. And although I never got to know him, I feel the use of his name and our passion for music connect us spiritually. The music he wrote and the music I write is similar. I started writing songs when I was six years old and performing shortly after that. I remember the first time I performed in front of an audience. It was at a talent show that I had begged my Grandmother to sign me up for. I was maybe seven years old and when signing up, they asked me what I was going to sing to which I replied “probably a song I wrote.” My beautiful and well intended Grandmother talked me out of this idea, and probably for the better given that the song I had written was about birds and a swing set, however, looking back I know I’ve always felt the need to share my art with the world and I found writing songs almost as a form of therapy. And I found that performing my songs helps me express my truest, most authentic self. For anyone who listens to my music, it is an extremely personal experience for me as the artist. It is like you’re hearing my soul dance. You’re listening to my deepest thoughts, my deepest desires, my deepest fears even….and as an artist I really love feeling close to my fans. Not only is sharing my music important in order to do that, but also performing and getting to connect with everyone all together. Concerts are such an ethereal experience to me, whether I’m attending or performing, and there’s a collective energy there that only the attendees and performers share. It’s such an intimate moment and so precious to me and I love being able to participate in that as a singer. The most important aspect of my music to me is being able to help others connect to their innermost feelings. I want them to feel their own power with me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I just want to spread love. Everyone deserves to feel loved, be loved and to give love. In the current climate of the world, it’s very easy to come down harshly on yourself. To forget the beauty and the love and light that surrounds us and is in us all. Further, I want my audience to embrace their power. I want them to listen to my music and feel connected with themselves… to feel the things that they don’t allow themselves to feel on a regular basis. To embrace the emotions that they didn’t even know they had. I want my audiences to feel like my music is holding their hand and helping them through the adversity that they had to overcome, a battle that they had to fight, or cheering them on. And I really want my supporters to feel like they have a friend in me, like I’m giving them a hug through their headphones as funny as that may sound. I want them to know that they are not alone in their emotions, whether it be happy, sad, frustrated, overwhelmed, elated, hopeful, satisfied, etc. and that they are loved, especially by me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding experience, as an artist, is getting to hear how your art has helped or inspired someone. It is such a blessing to me when I learn about somebody who my music impacted on a deeper level. To me, it almost feels like I’ve made a bond with that person. We’ve connected and I feel very honored that they let me in. That they allowed the music to speak to them and hug their soul. It’s hard to explain what it means to me but I can definitely express how much it means to me. Hearing about how my songs have helped or inspired someone is one of the most special and precious moments to me as a songwriter. It means the world to me.
