We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Riggs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David, appreciate you joining us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
When it came to recruiting those first few team members, I found that networking was key. I reached out to friends, colleagues, and industry contacts, asking if they knew anyone who would be a good fit for our team. It was important for us to find people who not only had the right skills and experience, but also shared our values and our passion for delivering exceptional SEO services to our clients.
One of the most important things we looked for during the interview process was a “can-do” attitude. We wanted team members who were eager to learn and grow, who were willing to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty, and who were excited about the prospect of being part of a small but dynamic team.
As for our recruiting and training process, we didn’t do anything particularly unconventional, but we did prioritize onboarding and training. We wanted to make sure that our new team members had all the resources and support they needed to hit the ground running, so we invested a lot of time and energy into developing a comprehensive training program.
Looking back, if I were starting my business today, I think I would have focused more on building a strong team from the very beginning. While it was important to work hard and build up our client base first, I think having a solid team in place earlier on would have helped us scale more quickly and effectively.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure, happy to share my story! My name is David Riggs and I am the owner of Pneuma Media, a digital agency that specializes in SEO and content strategy. I got into this industry through a combination of personal interest and experimentation. In college, I started testing website development ideas with local small businesses and quickly realized the potential for success. I saw firsthand how SEO and content strategy could help businesses turn their websites into revenue-generating machines, and that became the foundation for Pneuma Media.
At Pneuma, we link everything back to our clients’ bottom line to ensure that their investment with us is ROI positive. We provide a range of services including website development, SEO, and content strategy. Our focus is on helping businesses achieve measurable success, and we are proud of the results we have achieved for our clients.
What I am most proud of is how quickly we were able to scale our business. We went from $5,000 in monthly sales in July of 2020 to a multi-million dollar evaluation by June of 2021. We achieved this through a combination of hard work, dedication, and a focus on providing real results for our clients.
For potential clients, I want them to know that we are dedicated to their success. We take a personalized approach to every project we work on, and we are committed to delivering measurable results. We are confident in our ability to help businesses achieve success through SEO and content strategy, and we would be honored to work with anyone who shares our passion for digital marketing.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been a combination of cold outreach, partnerships, and our own SEO efforts. Cold outreach has been an important part of our growth strategy, as it allows us to directly connect with potential clients and offer them our services. However, we also recognize the importance of building relationships, and that’s where partnerships come into play. By partnering with other businesses and agencies, we’re able to tap into their networks and reach a wider audience.
Finally, our own SEO efforts have also been a key driver of growth. As a digital agency that specializes in SEO, it’s only natural that we practice what we preach. By consistently producing high-quality content and optimizing our website, we’re able to attract potential clients who are actively searching for the services we offer.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
At my company, we believe that building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients is key to fostering brand loyalty. To achieve this, we employ several strategies.
First and foremost, we stay in frequent communication with our clients. This means more than just discussing the work we’re doing on their websites and SEO strategies. We take the time to explain how our work impacts their business and offer suggestions for improvement. We also listen to their feedback and make adjustments accordingly.
We primarily use Slack as our main communication tool, but we like to mix it up with different forms of communication like audio messages and Loom videos to make sure our clients have a variety of options to engage with us. We also send out weekly reports that outline our progress and monthly calls to discuss strategy, goals, and next steps.
Beyond our usual communications, we also love to surprise and delight our clients with special gifts. It’s our way of showing our appreciation for their business and building a deeper relationship beyond the work we do for them.
Ultimately, we want our clients to feel like they’re a part of our team and that we’re invested in their success. By fostering strong relationships, we’re able to create a sense of trust and loyalty that goes beyond just a transactional relationship.
