We were lucky to catch up with LATOYA PERRY recently and have shared our conversation below.
LATOYA, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am extremely happy as a business owner even when I am not making any money. I love the flexibility and being able to do what I love daily. I have gone back to corporate America a few times but never for long because my heart is in my business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner of She Sweats Earrings and More! I make handmade fashionable earrings that are guaranteed to get you a head turn or two even if you don’t notice it. I knew from a young age that I was destined to be a business owner! I have started a few businesses but this one is the one I love the most! I have always been into fashion and wanted to design clothes but instead I started designing earrings and fell in love. When you love what you do it is no longer considered work!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first jumped into the entrepreneur world I did not properly prepare and was just winging it which is not the right thing to do! If you are planning to quit your 9-5 to fully work your brand then make sure to have a solid plan in place and money saved for personal expenses! I had to learn the hard way but I managed to get it right!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding my business was easy.I created a list of items I would need for my business and I used the extra money I had from my 9-5 and began to buy those items little by little until I had everything I needed.
I was building my business credit to so being able to utilize net 30 for some things helped a lot.
