Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carlos Silva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Carlos, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I think I put all that I have in all the jobs I get doing photography, but If I had to choose one, it would be working with a non profit on the gulf coast. They’re called, Louisiana Bucket Brigade. My friend recommended me to them and originally I had no idea what type of “event” I was shooting, it wasn’t until later on that I was fully engulfed in the fight to protect the gulf coast from the gas and oil industry. I love going hunting, fishing and being outdoors so to learn how much this industry is killing the land, sea, humans and nature got me on a path of continuous documentary work with LABB.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I worked in the hospitality industry for about 10 years. During that time, I was shooting food and beverage on the side. about 6 years ago, I decided that my path was photography so I quit and began my photo journey full time. Now, I work with hospitality professionals to help elevate their brand, restaurants and of course food and beverage. We also have a wedding business which is slowly growing and we’re super proud of.
One of my continuous works has been connecting and working with an organization called Turning Tables NOLA. They are a non profit the advocates for equity in the hospitality industry. Through them I’ve met some amazing clients and at the same time, create some beautiful work for the cause.
I’d like potential clients to know that we will always give it all we got. I’m a collaborative photographer and I do my best to learn about the client that I’m working with so I can tell the best story. I’m super proud of how the studio has been growing and cannot be more grateful for the people I’ve surrounded myself in the last couple of years.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I think one thing that drives my journey is that I want to be able to share stories on people of color and their successes in the hospitality industry. I’m inspired by culture and I think photographing food and beverage tells a deeper story other than ingredients. They communicate history and the roots of people.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients has always been word of mouth. One of my goals has always been to offer the best, most authentic, and seamless experience to my clients when they book me, and hopefully, they can tell others how amazing it was.
