Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Faith Goldstein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Faith , thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was in First Grade, an author came to our school for an “author visit.” She shared her book and discussed the whole writing/publishing process and I was hooked! I thought writing a book and getting it published sounded like the neatest thing ever, and it was that day that I decided that I wanted to be an author when I grew up.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Prior to writing children’s books, I taught Kindergarten for eight years. But when my second child was born in 2013, I left teaching to stay home full time. It was during this period that I started writing stories for children.
My first book, Gorillas’ Night Out, was published in 2019; this was truly a dream come true!
My second book, Matzah Means So Many Things, was published in 2022.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
A few years into my writing journey, I found my “fairy godmother” in the form of a professional writing organization named the SCBWI (Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.)
Through this organization, I have had the opportunity to attend conferences and seminars where I have had the opportunity to meet and learn from professionals in the industry.
In turn, this organization has greatly helped my writing career by exposing me to various people and resources that helped me to get where I am today.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE getting to share my stories with children, bringing joy into their lives through my books and igniting their imaginations.
Being a former Kindergarten teacher, one of my favorite parts of the job is doing “school visits,” which allows me to get back into the classroom. I love talking about the writing process with the children, hopefully inspiring them to become writers as I was inspired at the age of six.
