Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Campbell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Josh, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What does it take to be a successful photographer? I guess that depends on how you define success? I have been successful in photography in many ways. It’s allowed me to go places I would have never otherwise gone. I have been able to meet, spend time with and photograph people that I wouldn’t be able to if I wasn’t a photographer. In those ways I feel I have been extremely successful. If you define success by how well off you are financially, well that’s a little different, but I would also say I’m successful in this arena as well. I’m not rich with tons of assets but I have been able to make a living and support my family for many years by being a photographer. It takes perseverance, dedication, sacrifice, hard work and understanding. Also, the pursuit of success never ends, it’s something that I’m always striving for, that next experience and the next level of financial achievement.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In college I initially studied graphic design but quickly switched to learning professional photography. I attended a program that focused on the business of photography as well as the skills and I started working in the industry the week after graduation. I began my career photographing snowboarding, eventually expanding to portraiture and other sports related imagery. Over my carrer I have been fortunate to work with brands like Nike, Red Bull, LL Bean, TB12 Sports and many many more. I quickly realized that being versatile and open to multiple revenue streams would help me to make more money doing what I do. In 2020 when work almost ground to a halt, I used the time to come up with additions to the revenue stream. That’s when Massachusetts Real Estate Photography was born! I bring the same laid back but professional approach to the Real Estate realm with a strong emphasis on customer service. My mission is to be an extension of the agent or broker’s team providing them with assets they want to market their listings.I focus on being easy, reliable, and quickly delivering not only photos but videos, floor plans, aerial drone images and video as well as a few more services.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Massachusetts Real Estate Photography essentially started as a “pivot”. That pesky pandemic really threw off the momentum of my commercial photography business. I had to figure out who was spending money on photography when my regular clients weren’t. I went all in to learn a new business model, industry standards and got the ball rolling before the end of 2020. It didn’t take long to realize that this “pivot” was great move and something that really enjoy. It would real easy to dump on Covid but I believe it really allowed me to open my mind, get creative and ultimately add to the bottom line.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media has been key from the beginning, while growing and while continuing to grow. I have gained clients from connections on Linked-In. Instagram is a great resource to find and reach out to new potential clients. It’s been great for “word of mouth”-esque referrals too.
