We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Packard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.
Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Concepts by Design, Beautify Your Inner Space, came to me while, funny enough, I was in my bathroom primping for the day. At that time, I was working for a kitchen and bath, design build firm and dreaming of starting my own firm.
Creating a name and brand that encourages homeowners to invest in their quality of life by remodeling their kitchens and bathrooms, was the inspiration.
When I ran my tagline, Beautify Your Inner Space, by a family member, they said it sounded like I was referring to ones emotions. YES! The psychological and emotional impact of our environment, Inner Space, is HUGE!
We are subjectively impacted by various environments when we leave our homes on many levels including emotionally.
When I surround myself with unattractive and dysfunctional spaces I may feel stress, anxiety, overwhelm and unmotivated. When I surround myself with beauty I tend to feel joyful, serene, inspired and creative,

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I was a little girl, I used to sit on the curb to watch the sun set. As it set, the neighborhood lights would gradually turn on in each home one by one. It was my dream to visit each of these families, see their lifestyle, how they used their homes and to smell all the wonderful smells unique to them and their cooking.
My life and career today has allowed me to live out that childhood dream, Getting to know one family at a time. I help them to create better interior spaces for better living.
I consider the wellbeing of my clients during a very pivotal process in their life. They are investing a let of money in their kitchen or bathroom which can be both stressful and exciting. It is my mission, as their designer, to communicate, educate and alleviate stress.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I read this question as keeping personally in touch with my client on a emotional level rather than by phone, email, text, etc. My brand, Beautify Your Inner Space, requires me, as a kitchen and bath designer, to foster excellent personal relationships with the homeowner on a intimate level. I see a lot on my job sites. I am in a persons private space. Sometimes it is messy, dirty, unorganized and embarrassing. There is a reason I am in their home. They are ready to change and improve their lifestyle. This requires open communication, trust and understanding. I am that designer…that person.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
It has always been a passion and dream of mine to help people, but it takes more than a dream and passion to run a successful business. I had to learn to work ON my business not just IN my business.
I had ten projects start at one time and although I had established excellent rapport with each client, it was too much to manage all at once. We were having a wonderful time designing, selecting materials and sharing visions but when it came to implementation, I realized the critical importance of having processes and procedures in place. I had spent so much time doing the pretty and fun “stuff” that the execution of such a time intensive workload had not been considered.
I quickly needed to get more organized with a multifaceted and detail intensive business. Needless to say I had to make some big changes. I hired an assistant, read books, listened to podcasts, hired a coach and implemented a program to manage my projects. I am always learning, tripping and picking myself up and moving forward.
