We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrew Black a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andrew thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Make changes – lean on your own experience to tell you how to go forward. The seasons change: if you go through the whole year operating the same way in January as you do in August, you’ll fail. You win when you makes changes whether they work or not because you learn from the outcome.
Hire the right people for the jobs you need done – When the right person comes around, you going to have to pour all the right fundamentals and investment into that person to get them to where they need to be. There is no guarantee that it will work, you just have to take the risk and keep the faith.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m most proud of the success of the people around me. The people that took a journey with me and managed to create better skills for themselves, and work in a safe environment. They know they have a space and the skills to make money and take care of their daily needs for themselves and their families. That’s what I’m most proud of.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey is that I came from nothing, no electricity, just living in the countryside in Jamaica. We didn’t have anything; we had to forage for everything. When people say they’re tired and working hard and they have no food on their plates, that’s what I come from–that’s what I know. That isn’t necessarily pressure for me, because I’m so familiar with it. The trick is to be adaptable when things are falling short, and to learn how to help others while doing it.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency and loyalty. Never do wrong by anyone, and the business will grow.
