We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mosade Edwards a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mosade, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Love, Confetti Events’ origin is not wholly unique. We started and are fueled by a passion for creating unique events that reflect those they celebrate. How We Started – Father of the Bride was one of my favorite movies growing up – Steve Martin was hilarious and Martin Short, as a wedding planner, tickled me to no end. A close runner up was The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez. What seemed to be missing from all of these films I loved… Was the representation of Black & Brown Love and Celebration. As I grew older, I settled into my own intimate love for details, organization, planning, and creating beautiful spaces in all aspects to enhance life’s best moments. Regularly, I saw beautiful weddings and celebrations showcasing Caucasians, but still no black love and celebration in sight. This uneven representation ignited my passion and continues to fuel me today. Black Love and Life deserves to be celebrated in all ways shapes and forms – And moreover, the burden of that celebration doesn’t have to rest on the shoulders of the celebrant.
With that origin story our hopes for our Legacy is for the celebration of black and brown people to be a center focus, not be a niche or feature. A prime focal point in the how our celebrants see themselves and feel that they are worthy of the spotlight.
We, as people of color, are uniquely capable of representing and celebrating one another. I strive to translate this message to each and every one of my clients.
“The celebration of your love and life matters, and Love, Confetti Events can make that dream a reality.”
We take pride in the position that we have played with our investment and commitment to this aim. We strive to work with vendors that exemplify and profess the same. We invest in the next generation of event professionals that will take up the helm in our stead to see that this emphasis remains consistent and more importantly grows in the years ahead.
In recent years celebrations of Black & Brown life have become a more prominent and consistent focus. Still, there must be a steady infusion of BIPOC businesses supporting and defending the importance of this mission. We are one of many that stands committed to this intention and purpose and hope that our lasting legacy exemplifies that devotion.

Mosade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think most entrepreneurs share my same sentiments about building an audience on social media – It’s a LOT of work. More than you’ve ever thought to put into your personal Instagram or Facebook pages. During the pandemic, we all had seemingly, significantly, more time on our hands than we were used to. During that time I perused TikTok + Instagram social media “experts” suggestions for different ways to manage content + build an audience. Though reluctant at first, I took some of these suggestions and built them into a daily engagement routine. I built a simple engagement routine, 10 minutes a day of just scrolling, liking, and commenting. This practice helped created a reciprocal community of businesses and expanded my reach to new audiences. I also created a bi-weekly posting with self-created content. I designate one day weekly to build content and post the results the next week using social media management platforms with auto-posting features. This was key for me as I don’t always have the time to manually post something myself. These consistent actions helped me build a stable audience that is continuing to grow.
Ultimately, finding the tools that work for you and building a consistent schedule is paramount. Be realistic about what you can manage. Don’t beat yourself up about falling off that schedule. Life is still happening beyond your business, beyond social media – make room for yourself. Don’t expect your audience to grow exponentially, instantly. Mine has grown steadily and organically, and I’m okay with that. We will get to higher numbers one day and when that day comes, great. Be authentic to yourself and your audience, sharing what matters to you and what you feel good about. Don’t be so rigid in your posting guidelines, that you don’t actually post.
Remember that social media shouldn’t be something that consumes you or takes focus away from the actual goals and objectives of your business.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Presence and authenticity built my reputation in the market. I strive to bring these to everything and everyone I meet. Showing up in this way I believe lays a foundation of trust with my clients and vendors I’m working with. It sets an intention and expectation for those I’m working with to do the same – Do onto others as you would have them do unto you. I don’t always get this reciprocated, but more often than not, I do, and my reputation stands to that. I approach and stand in my work and relationships because I’ve cultivated them with honesty, authenticity, and presence. Early in my career, I was taught to invest in relationships with people because that would take me far – And it hasn’t been proven wrong since.
