We recently connected with Aiyana Torres and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aiyana , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Great question, here’s a little back story. I am the youngest of three girls on top of being the only child on my fathers side, with that being said growing up I had the best of both worlds. I was able to grab all of my fathers attention while also playing and having fun with my siblings. As I started to grow up things became a little unstable, we experienced divorce, then separation and later on my father passed away. With those sequence of events heartbreak reached me a very young age, an age I was not able to understand. As i began to understand the world I knew so well was changing before my eyes I realized how important it was for me to fulfill the purpose I was set out for. My parents are my back bone I look to them for the littlest things, just like many others. They have instilled in me an understanding for life and all that comes with it. As a child I did not realize how good I had it with having both parents around with the resources we had and I may say, I took that for granted. Fast forward to now I am a Self Employed Entrepreneur of 3 years at the age of 25 and despite all the ups and downs ,highs and lows, I am always able to conquer whatever I set out to do. No matter if the plan , my plan has to take a detour there is nothing that I feel I cannot do or achieve and I extend my gratitude to my parents for that. They have always shown me different perspectives to help analysis situations to come to the best outcome. My parents were not perfect and may have falling short like we all do sometimes but one thing for sure they have passed down this level of resilience that I would not trade for the world. Being self employed was a decision I made on my own because I knew I was destined for greater, and I wouldn’t of had that courage or drive if it wasn’t for them.
.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those of you who may not know my name is Aiyana Torres and I am the Owner of Urban Beauty Skin & Brow Bar and a Licensed Esthetician. I became an Esthetician in 2019-2020 after attending Paul Mitchell the School in North Haven CT. Shortly after attending school I was able to service my friends, family and guests at my home studio and did so for about a year prior to obtaining my own space. My specialty is eyebrow waxing , eyebrow tinting and facials. I aim to bring every guest a level of relaxation you will not find elsewhere. The reason I started Urban Beauty was truthfully because I knew working a 9-5 job just was not for me and I had a passion for brow art that I could not let go to waste. So I stepped out on faith and just trusted in myself. Over the past 3 years adjusting to being self employed has been a journey. What keeps me motivated the most is,there will always be someone to educate, to inspire and impact with skincare. Our skin is our biggest organ and the way we take care of ourselves will show whether it is now or later. That is why I spend my time spreading awareness, sharing my knowledge and providing a safe and comfortable environment to detach from the stresses of everyday life and fully indulge in yourself. I offer a variety of skin treatments, eyebrow enhancements and full body waxing. Feel free to call, email or contact me and It will be my honor to allow you to experience self care the Urban Beauty way! I take pride in knowing we offer an experience with every visit and not just a service. Whether it is our playlist or the aroma of lemons and lavender we make it our mission to exude an unforgettable experience.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Seeking constructive criticism and always looking for ways to improve. This may look like asking for feedback from my guest, peers etc to seeking further knowledge, taking classes, reward/loyalty programs. providing refreshments etc. I am always looking to improve myself and my business. Nothing says the same, we like to evolve in everything we do. This helps keeps our guests encouraged, keeps us on top of the workload and keeps everyone happy all around.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Building relationships and connections with your guests, like minded individuals and even local revivals. This is a helpful and healthy was to do business. Sometimes it is not what you know it is who you know and it is always good to have people in your corner to confide in than not to.
