We recently connected with Madison Truscan and have shared our conversation below.
Madison, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I strive to leave a legacy of authenticity for future generations to come. I want nothing more in life than to touch the lives of every client and person I photograph. I want them to feel seen, heard, encouraged and loved – even if it’s their first time in front of the camera. I dream of continuing to establish a name for myself and be known for who I uniquely am: a quirky, confident, and REAL photographer who captures true and authentic moments in time for you, your business or your loved ones.
Madison, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After dancing competitively for fifteen years, I suffered a pretty severe spine injury in 2017 and began the search for a new hobby or creative outlet. I decided to pick back up photography, after receiving my first camera as a Christmas gift at ten years old. I started taking photos of family and friends for fun, photographing everyone I possibly could. I soon realized working with people in front of my camera came naturally and I had a real knack for it. When the pandemic hit in spring of 2020, I was working from home for my day job and had too much free time. Getting restless and seeking purposeI decided to start posting videos on TikTok sharing about myself and my photography and why someone should book with me. It immediately started gaining a lot of traction and I really started to establish a name for myself. I branded myself uniquely as @madisonfromseattle (since I was then living in Seattle, but now my username is @madisonfromdallas). More videos started blowing up and client inquiries were coming in left and right! I was thrilled. Soon realizing I needed to move forward, I started a business officially and scheduled clients.
I became known in Seattle (and now Dallas) as the photographer to work with who will make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. My clients come from all walks of life – high school seniors needing grad photos, small business owners seeking social media content, a young couple in love, an entrepreneur needing some branding, a team of employees searching for updated headshots, a shy bachelor wanting some photos for a dating app profile. It’s so special and exciting because I feel confident in my ability I truly pride myself on being able to work with anyone, regardless of their camera experience.
I strive each day to inspire and empower my clients by capturing their truest and most authentic self. Because of this, I have really been able to niche down and set myself apart. I firmly believe that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life, and that’s exactly what life feels like right now. In January, I moved halfway across the country, solo, to pursue a new job opportunity to do photography and branding for a marketing agency called Loud. My life literally feels like a dream and I am beyond excited to see what new clients I’ll photograph this season. My heart feels full!
If you’re in the Dallas area and looking for a photographer to capture you as YOU, you’ve found your gal. And don’t worry, I’m available to travel for clients anywhere in the world too!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing that look on my client’s face when I show them the back of the camera after taking the perfect shot. It warms my heart. I consistently hear things like “That’s me?!” and “I had no idea I could look like that!”. But it doesn’t compare to the sweet texts I receive after sending over a final photo gallery. I’ve had clients cry because of being so happy and confident after their photo session. It inspires me to keep going.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I find that non-creatives in my life struggle to understand my spontaneity. With photography, if there is a last minute opportunity, you can’t pass it up. Sometimes that means getting a photo pass for huge event on the east coast and dropping everything to make it there, or talking to literally every single person who works for a concert venue to obtain a photo pass, or agreeing to take on a really creative project with an insane turnaround time. I am fueled by last-minute activities, especially photo-related travel. It fills my soul and sparks creative flow for me. I will always say yes to an adventure, and my portfolio has grown significantly because of that, and the connections I’ve made are insane. Life is too short to not say “yes” to something that big.
