We recently connected with Kat Ambrose and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kat, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
Personally, for me, the best investment that I have made as a business owner has been in continuing education and workshops. Even though I did obtain my degree in photography, these have allowed me to meet people in the community and build working relationships.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Photography has also been a passion for me and it’s the reason I chose to study and get my degree in it. I initially wanted to pursue a career in photojournalism but landed an internship with a local award-winning wedding photographer straight out of college and fell in love with documenting weddings and it was what introduced me to the industry back in 2014.
Living in Houston means that I get to document lots of different cultures and traditions on people’s wedding days and I think it is so beautiful getting to encapsulate so much emotion and love. I am proud that I am able to tell the story of such an important day for my clients to re-live later on.
My work is first and foremost documentary with a touch of editorial and fine art when it comes to taking portraits. When I am not photographing weddings I love photographing food. I recently did an assignment for Houstonia Magazine and it got published and I am really proud of that.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of my new clients come from word of mouth or referrals from other photographers. I think when people trust you and believe in your work and recommend you to others. that goes a long way. Instagram has also helped in being able to share my work and get it out there for people to see.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The relationships I have built with my clients and other photographers.
