We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dorothy Cross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dorothy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Working in the dental field for eleven years. I was tired of corporate work. I was trained as dental surgical assistant and traveled all over Dallas to help train new graduates and then they would work for big dental companies. My turning point was in 2021 when my dentist at the time saw me in a different lens and said I needed to find my passion outside of assisting and training. So I took and extra courses to get started with my teeth whitening business and launched it in April 2022. Then in December of 2022 I met a plastic surgeon in Frisco who did my botox and was telling me about expanding my business to do Botox treatments. I was told by many doctors and nurses I’m not allowed to. One doctor told me the information and I did my research. So in January 2023 I took extensive training to become a certified botox injector. This by far has the biggest risk I have taken but it is rewarding because you have medical professionals that mentor you. It is going well and I continued to educate my clients on the importance of preventative care with oral health and botox treatment..
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Precise Glo is not just a one stop shop and go. We mostly focus on educating our clients on health and wellness. We do offer consultations to make sure the client is getting specific treatments that they are needing met. We have medical doctors that are on site or zoom to discuss concerns or goals that want to be met. As far as dentistry we set realistic goals and make sure each client goes to get a clearance before getting whitening treatment done in our office. Once a month I do teach new business owners how to expand their business and teach a whitening course. I mentored my students and do weekly follow ups and visit their salons. I help managed social media and do marketing tools with them. So if I am not with a client I am checking on my students to make sure they are doing well with their business. My job is to be a teacher first and then guide them through the process..
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I was a big introvert in the beginning of my career. Last year I had to break out my comfort zone and network. I had to unlearn not be afraid of speak my mind and go talk with dentist and doctors to help me grow. A no is ok and keep going. The right one will come to you. That was my biggest challenge was keep going and it’s ok to hear a no.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I believe in quality over quantity. As I mentioned before I have worked at a corporate company it’s all about production. Sometimes I have to retrain myself and remember I want to give this client something to remember and not rush them out. I rather have all positive reviews and pay attention to details. Then overbooked myself and give them sloppy work or not delivered treatment on time. So for me word of mouth has help me longevity in succeeding. Amazing reviews from both clients and previous students. Dental referrals has helped me blossomed too.
