We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents, Louis and Renee Brown, have been instrumental in helping implement my sense of work ethic in the workplace. Growing up, they always hammed home the idea of being the best employee a company could hope for. Hard working, loyal, dependable, always willing to lend a helping hand, etc. I cannot thank them enough for their guidance and un-wavering support of my personal path of success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In 2018, I had the idea of starting a podcast from the ground up. I am an avid sports fan, and always thought it would be fun to host my own show. A show that could be put together on my terms, and have complete control of. I wanted to have a platform that allowed anyone and everyone to have their voice heard, and to feel like they were truly a part of what we were building. At the Beer Sports Whatever podcast, we have successfully completed over 180 episodes, and have recorded in over 7 cities across the U.S.A. I am proud to say we have landed a sponsor, Nick’s Place Sports Bar, and are a part of a published podcast platform, Around The Block. I am very proud of the work we put in on a weekly basis, and continue to grow our fan base, one listener at a time.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have operated the same Instagram for over 8 years, and have a little over 1,000 followers. I have had the same Facebook for over a year now, and have nearly 1,000 friends. I am proud to say these followers and friends have been grown organically, and I have ever just added social media friends or followers just for the heck of it. So many people get caught up in the idea of needing to have huge numbers to be deemed successful or popular. This notion is foreign to the product that we have. We are proud to have a following that may not be the biggest, but they are loyal to our weekly shows and posts. For that, we are extremely grateful.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The ability to have free reign over what type of shows I want to host/produce is a luxury that many in my industry do not have. I am thankful for the ability to take input from our listeners, and incorporate into our shows, and make our episodes truly a show by our people and for our people.
