We recently connected with Deri Lorus and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Deri, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
God gave me the best supportive parents. So, I can be sure my parents are always right when they choosing paths for me. It has been impacted in my life and in my career.
My parents are supportive when it’s comes to Music and they will encourage me to work on my songs. Both Mom and Dad will always boost me up. Whenever I write and produce songs, they will be the one who listens at first.
When I was around 13-14 years, I was interested in music so I wanted to learn music but due to some family situation I couldn’t join music classes. But my parents were hoping that myself and my brother will study music (piano). We prayed and by the Grace of God my cousin taught me some basics and after that I learnt some from watching and listening to others playing.
My parents taught me about Faith, Hope and Pray. Dad taught me singing. These impacted in my life to be who I am now. I know they will be supportive and helpful in the future as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well, I’m Deri Lorus. I’m a music composer, singer-songwriter from Chennai, a city in India. As a music producer I’ve worked side by side with various artists and other music producers to sound their best in music. I had an interest in music from my childhood but due to some family difficulties he couldn’t study music as a kid but, the passion and the interest on music never stopped me.
Around the age of 13-14, My cousin taught basics in music. I didn’t know that my profession would be a music composer. I have started my journey in Chennai. I was also keyboard player in my school, St. John’s Matriculation Higher secondary school which is located in Alwarthirunagar. My school management encouraged me to play keyboard on school programs/occasions. Myself and my brother Dan Emil Joshua and my friends formed a Music Band on our school. I had a good time with my School Choir. I couldn’t able to continue further in playing keyboard on our school final year. I had been releasing music single’s as a school student. Then, I went on to take study at AV ProTech in the field of sound engineering. During this time, I’ve impressively scaled his News/Media company.
In September 2017, I’ve started a music record label “D Flat Records” along with my brother Dan Emil Joshua producing and releasing our own music. I had launched my first start‐up D Flat Records in the year 2017. It’s largely self-taught. Shortly, I had built my social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Since then, I had a huge following and has been featured in multiple media outlets.
I’ve been named among the top 50 music producers in Chennai.
I have about 20K+ followers on Instagram. There, I shares contents on music, informative stories and motivation.
Going forward, I’m aiming to empower many more people through out the use of social media.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
To be get recognised, I would always suggest you not to stop doing what you do. Never stop or don’t get disappointed just seeing the numbers. Numbers doesn’t matter. If you have 200 people to listen to your songs? Be happy for them. Always be loyal to your work.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I would recommend using Multiple social media to build your presence. Nowadays, social media is the powerful tool to reach people. So, post your works every single week or if possible twice a week. It will definitely build your online presence.
