We were lucky to catch up with Tyler Henry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler , appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
In my opinion and in my experience lately, What I equate to what it takes in being successful would be 3 things : one , A lot of self reflection , Two , willing to take risk , Three staying discipline and focused.
These things to me help you become a better person and I think that reflects your business practices. It isn’t about being rich beyond belief but also being a person that has a story and testament in growth of how you take loses and it build you in being better whether in relationships that are both personal or business. Getting addicted to being better and the process not just the end results of what that looks like. That has been my lesson over the past 2 years. All three of these things work hand to hand none is more important than the other.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Tyler Henry , I am a commercial + editorial photographer from philadelphia, PA based in New York / Jersey City.
I got into the photography at the end of my high school years as I graduated and saw someone I knew practicing being a photographer. I thought to myself I could definitely do that because of my history of being in the arts as I enjoyed drawing.
I got into fashion industry when I was traveling from Philadelphia to New York to visit my cousin that lived here at the time . I met other photographers that I became friends with and models that I got the opportunity to shoot. That lead to me pitching to agencies and shooting more models. Then I knew it was time for me to move to New York or somewhere closer to it and I moved to Jersey city in 2017 in pursue of being full time photographer / Artist.
The type of products I sell are services or Fine Art pieces I have created over the years . What sets me apart from others is my creativity. I feel that I my work is set apart from others and has a rememberable feeling to it. My goal is to leave work that makes you remember it and the artist.
what I am proud of is my work and evolution in my work. My work before wasn’t very rememberable I feel and it didn’t leave people in awe. Lately I feel I has surprised people and made them want to work with me.
The main thing I want my clients or new people that want to work with me or get to know me is that I love to work and I love to being a service of others. I want to help everyone excel in the best way I know how and If I can achieve it I will feel even more happy excited that I did that for them . Their win is my win too.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What I think helped me build my reputation within my industry is being available and willing to take different jobs other than the one I really want which of course is the photographer.
In this industry to build reputation or your name have to be available and that can be taking a risk and not working a regular job. I don’t advise anyone to do that because situations can be different. But the less you are not available your name will not circulate.
I do advise taking a job in the industry whether that be working at a studio , assistant , Digi tech . Your name will be around more and you aren’t out of the industry.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
the best source of new clients for me has been linkedin and IG and also cold emailing. Its a lot of work but I do a lot of pitching and it has worked out for me but also word of mouth as well being in the industry and being open to opportunities.
