We were lucky to catch up with Sharita Renee Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharita Renee , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I am first generation, most things in my family. First generation published author, first generation business owner (of this type), first generation President of an Nonprofit organization. My mission behind my story is simply doing what the world says you can’t do. Achieving those very things that “people like you” just don’t. Being a single parent I learned that people look at you like you won’t amount to anything other then living pay check to people check and raising children. Expectations aren’t place on people that aren’t expected to do anything other then what the world says can. Well we prove everyday that we have expectations for ourselves. We have dreams that might had to be paused yet we have pressed play.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My business and brand Poetic Greatness By Sharita Renee. Is a business that I start a few years ago . I wanted to be able to not only sell my books but to also custom make merchandise with some of my best spoken word quotable lines. I’ve always had a love for fashion and literature. So I wanted to combine both. Better Business Bureau accredited. My small business will become a big business. Although currently we operate by direct sales through different social media sources and through our business page. Our new website is under construction. From books, to apparel and jewelry. Poetic Greatness By Sharita Renee is a timeless brand for all people. Our customers are always excited to tag us in there photo with our merchandise..
Customer know rather it’s an order through email or a direct order through our business page. They will receive the best customer service. We treat each customer like they are apart of our tribe and value them as such. I’m most proud of actually doing it. I had no human blueprint, I learned a lot from researching and applying what I had learned.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
It’s okay to be first generation, most things . I had to unlearn being afraid to ask questions and get into rooms that I did have access to ,through family and friends.
I’m a first generation business owner and published author. I couldn’t go to my parents, grandparents or family to ask “how did you start your own business” or “how did you get your writings published “.
Everything I learned business wise ,was through researching on my own and a couple of people I encountered that wanted to see my dreams come true.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients thus far has definitely been social media. Word of mouth is free advertisement and great. However social media allows you to reach people all over the world. Running ads on social media can be a great source for getting your brand out and building clientele.
