Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Ryan Warner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dr. Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
I have been fortunate to have many positive social supports in my life and I would not be where I am today without their encouragement. However, one person who specifically stands out to me is my mother. She has been by my side since day one and has always helped me overcome various challenges throughout my life. Growing up in a single parent household, she managed taking care of my brother and I, despite working multiple jobs. She sacrificed a lot in her life to provide resources for me so that I could pursue my dreams and reach my fullest potential. I learned from my mom that there are no limitations in life if you put in effort and perseverance.

Dr. Ryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
At RC Warner Consulting, our mission is to assist teams with creating a culture of inclusion to maximize their potential. Using an innovative approach, our vision is to serve as a premiere, globally recognized consulting firm that assists small and large organizations with enhancing their workplace culture through leadership, diversity, and wellness. Unlike other companies, we specialize in taking a multi-dimensional approach to enhance organizational commitment and effectiveness. We understand that you cannot boost diversity within the workplace without also focusing on wellness and leadership enhancement; and vice-versa.
Before founding RC Warner Consulting, I began to realize that most people spend a large percentage of their life at work. However, I found through my personal and professional experiences that many organizations struggle with fostering a culture of inclusion within their workplace. In turn, this impacts performance, retention, and overall employee well-being. As a Black male consulting psychologist, my passion related to diversity, leadership, and wellness fueled me to fill this gap and serve as an advocate and change agent to enhance workplace climate.
Today, many organizations struggle with poor leadership, cultural discrimination, and low employee wellness. To fill this need, we have been able to expand our reach to millions of people across the globe by offering educational trainings, executive coaching, strategic planning, and other services that fill these specific gaps within the workplace. Currently, our most requested services include our diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings, executive coaching, and diversity consulting services to improve organizational effectiveness. We also take pride in working with individuals to improve their psychological resilience, cultural awareness, and leadership abilities so that they can make changes within their communities and organizations.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Prior to the formation of my business I began obtaining expertise and knowledge on the impact of microaggressions for people of color through my research and doctoral studies. From there, I began conducting speaking engagements on microaggressions in the workplace while working as a full-time clinical psychologist. I began as a volunteer speaker to convey how to effectively respond to discrimination in the workplace due to my own personal and professional experiences. I wanted to use my passion and knowledge to facilitate lasting change and make a difference within my community. Fast forward, local and national organizations began offering to pay me for these trainings, which helped me monetize my work. A few months later I decided to form a LLC. Two years later I have been fortunate to work with organizations across the globe and have spread my message to millions of people.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Many of my new clients have been attracted from my speaking engagements. Often times audience members from my trainings and workshops serve as referrals or turn into future/repeat clients. This opens the door for other opportunities, including executive coaching, strategic planning, and management consulting engagements.
