Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amy Hitchcock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
We try to be a little different from the industry standard brewery or tap house. We want to encourage social gatherings among people that know each other and also among strangers who share a passion for delicious food and drinks. Our concept is similar to a European Beer Hall. We have long pallet tables and lots of colorful artwork. Customers have two options for ordering food. They can come up to the bar or to find a seat and order from the QR codes on their phones. All drinks and food are delivered directly to the customers. We also family owned and independently operated. While we love and promote our Voodoo beers, we also support all the local breweries, meaderies and tap houses. We are all about keeping it local and social.
Amy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My husband and I have always wanted to run a bar. I have over a decade of pediatric oncology nursing experience and my husband was a financial specialist for Stanford University. We met on St. Patricks Day… a long time ago, over green beer and still today enjoy green beer today as our Lacto-Kooler is one of our favorite beers and its green, ALL YEAR ROUND! We love all beer but Voodoo beers really had something for everyone for every season. We decided to buy a Voodoo and open it here in Reno! We are excited to invite our community to many events we are planning while enjoying really great food and beverages.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Instagram and social media have been fantastic for reaching out to our community here in Reno.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Sure! My business partner is a very handsome gentlemen that I met about 12 years ago on St. Patrick’s Day at a Sport’s Bar. We were both enjoying green beer when I spotted him. He was sitting with some of my classmates from grade school who were in after school math with me. We got to talking and he offered me a ride home. I accidentally left my camera in his car so we had to meet up again and the chemistry was instantaneous. I lived 6 hour away but he kept coming to visit me and in a couple months we moved in together, a couple years later we got married, had kids and then opened up Voodoo, the rest is history.
