We were lucky to catch up with Christopher Zamora recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you ever had an amazing boss? What did you learn from them? Maybe you can share a story that illustrates the kind of boss they were or maybe you can share your thoughts on what you think made them an awesome person to work for?
One of my first-ever bosses happened to be a veritable guru of onboarding. As soon as I arrived, she took my job description and broke it down into discrete parts. Then, she took these parts and described each one in terms of what it meant for me on a weekly basis, so I was only really learning one new task a week. Thanks to her guidance and stellar onboarding, after eight weeks, I was effectively able to do her job, which allowed her to focus on much more important things, like supporting the company CFO.
This was a great boss, and I came back for three separate internships with the company. I didn’t realize it at the time, but she was a world-class on-boarder, and my job was much more interesting because I understand what I was doing, why I was doing it and how what I did impacted the company.
What I learned most from this excellent boss was the power of getting someone up to speed quickly so they can get started with meaningful and productive work right away.
However, I also realized as much as onboarding is about getting new hires to start contributing to your organization, as a boss, you also have to be sure that you’re not overloading them with too much information. For people to truly succeed at your organization, you have to make it easy for new team members to be successful.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I founded Sustainable Cleaning in 2020, after having worked in the luxury retail market for over ten years. While managing several high-end stores, I realized the shortage of superior yet affordable cleaning services for luxury commercial spaces. As a result, I decided to launch my own business using the knowledge, skills and abilities gained from my employment at several luxury boutiques in South Florida. I evaluated what was missing in the commercial cleaning market, specifically for these types of stores. Based on my management experience and after thorough assessment, Sustainable Cleaning came to fruition. Utilizing high-quality, eco-friendly cleaning products along with implementing the highest standards of cleaning as well as exceptional customer service, Sustainable Cleaning is able to serve various luxury retail businesses located in South Florida.
Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Zamora.
Christopher, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The skills for both positions may differ but the motivation for doing both was always present, which removed several roadblocks. I was able to kickstart Sustainable Cleaning by using only eco-friendly products and cleaning these beautiful stores the way I would have wanted them cleaned as manager of these stores. I believe my background in retail has allowed me the opportunity to provide a great service to high-end stores. The growing pains of starting a business, such as building a clientele and developing a great team, were there at the start. However, seeing the business expand throughout Florida and Atlanta tells me that my customers are happy and perhaps those growing pains are somewhat subsiding.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Establish relationships with people whose values and standards mimic those of your brand. This is not only true for partners and influencers, but also for the staff you select to represent your company online.
Hire the right people first and foremost, then train them all under a set standard. Make sure your entire team is on the same page about company messaging.
Customer experience is all about your attention to detail. And your attention to detail is what your reputation will be built upon. This includes any and all points of contact and interaction with the customer involving delivery of products and services.
Good customer experience signals to your clients and prospects, the brand will not abandon them after making their sale. It is also a great way to convert customers into brand advocates and to promote positive word-of-mouth.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
There is nothing like understanding your clients’ needs and challenges while building relationships. Understand where your clients spend their time and get involved building long-term relationships. Show up to events regularly, have coffee meetings with people to get to know them, and volunteer on boards and committees to share your knowledge. The rest will follow.
Potential clients are people who have complex needs, both personal and professional. Seek to understand the biggest needs, challenges or struggles they are confronting. Determine if you can provide value in a specific area by offering a solution, tip or connection. Becoming a resource means you help someone address a challenge, fix a problem or meet a need. At that point, you’re unforgettable.
