Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Theresa Agostinelli. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Theresa , thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
When I was 19 years old I was pregnant and married. When I was 26 years old my husband died suddenly. I was broke and broken. With few skills, no job and little resources I was finding myself anxious, depressed and self sabotaging. I wanted to curl up in a ball and die. But I knew I had to be the best mom that I could for my little boy. The defining moment was when I spoke at my husbands funeral, I really felt a connection with all those in attendance. I never aspired to be a public speaker but a fire ignited inside of me and I felt that I was called to help others by sharing my pain to propel them into their purpose. Now it took me a while to overcome my fear of speaking, I had to learn to communicate well and I went back to school to get my degree in counseling so that I could help others. I eventually opened my own private practice and since then have expanded into corporate trainings, teaching at a university and helping others through mindset mastery, speaking on human potential, and teaching human development . I authored a book on overcoming adversities and challenges, based on my journey and stories of many of those I have coached or counseled over the years. You could say its my passion to pursue others and help them to create more of what’s good in life and live in an abundance mindset. .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A high school graduate from a Philadelphia working-class family, I overcame many significant hardships to rise from housewife, widow, and single mother to successful Master Psychotherapist and Internationally known Author, Motivational Speaker, Business Coach and Leadership Trainer. My own struggles and challenges such as the loss of a husband and two brothers, and both parents, financial difficulties and other significant setbacks taught me valuable lessons. With a fear of public speaking and suffering from depression and anxiety I was forced to face my own limited beliefs. This caused me to transform my life. That transformation brought about several successful companies. Now through my work as an author, teacher at a university, a trusted consultant I am helping companies amplify their success with workshops, lunch and learns and key notes.
This depth of personal and professional experience gives me a unique ability to understand those who are trying to uplevel in life, career, relationships, finances and more.
My experiences in overcoming and succeeding, and building many successful business relationships, combined with my global credibility and effectiveness from being part of the John Maxwell Team means that you will have access to proven methods of success.
I have now committed my career to helping others improve their mindset and provide them the tools they need to lead a healthy and productive life, both personally and professionally.”
The key to creating more of what’s good in your life is to have mindset mastery as part of a core value. As each person learns self-mastery and self-improvement skills, individuals will benefit and do better. This creates a feeling of overall well-being. The tools I offer will help create confidence that will cause anyone who applies the principles to thrive. Teaching others the art of mastering their mindset through emotion regulation and emotional intelligence helps my clients to increase productivity and decrease effects of past trauma and drama. With my experience as a psychotherapist, college professor and coaching high level performers, I have been able to put together a curriculum for success in any area of life.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I believe that anyone can change at any time as long as they have the proper tools to overcome negative mindsets and limiting beliefs. Many will say that people can’t change or you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. But working in the field of human behavior for almost 20 years I have seen the opposite. That kind of negative thinking can destroy self-confidence and rob people of maximizing their potential and the ability to transform. I believe people can change. Because I have changed and evolved. I have seen so many people grow and change and evolve. It’s the life changing experiences that cause us to embrace a new self. People don’t choose what environment they are born in especially an environment of trauma and negative circumstances they cannot control. That ultimately shapes a person and they become adults living out the same results as they saw in those early years in their environment. What I have seen is that people sometimes don’t know what they don’t know. But when people are empowered with new vision, self-awareness and the tools to change, they can evolve and transform into better versions of themselves. It’s never about perfection. We are all flawed human beings. Rather it’s about striving to be and to give our best. The greatest gift we can give to our selves and to others is the grace and the empowerment to grow and that is where we find the greatest sense of pride, confidence and happiness. This builds an enviornment of trust and loyalty and boosts morale.
