We recently connected with Kyle Meluch and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
I volunteer at a few shelters around the valley every week. There are a ton of perfect dogs that need homes. While i personally am not able to add to my pack at this current time, I can at least give back by spending time with them and seeing how they like the treadmills or at least spend some time outside of their kennels.
Kyle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So to put it in one sentence we are the Valley’s premiere climate controlled mobile dogg treadmill facility on wheels. We bring the running and enrichment to you and your four legged child. We provide a safe and fun environment for them to get additional exercise and mental stimulation that they may not be getting at home. Whether you lack time, space or energy as a resource to keep your dogg at it’s healthiest and happiest, no need to worry, we specialize in that. Give us a try and see what happens!
With our treadmill and play sessions we send the client ( doggie ) back to their owners tired, enriched, and happy. This leads to less destructive behaviors like unwanted barking or chewing as well as separation anxiety. Most breeds out there save a fewer of the smaller ones need appx. 30 to 90 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity a day, so we help with those general health needs as well.
The main thing we would like out potential clients to know or consider is you never know until you try. Dogs on treadmills? Seems silly to some but we can tell you based on some of the feedback we get that the doggs fall in love with it and oftentimes will go nuts when they see us pulling up in anticipation of the upcoming sessions. Simply put they love and we love them.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The largest pivot I’ve ever done in my life is this one. Starting and opening DoggDash.
I was a mortgage loan officer for the 4 almost 5 years prior to this and when I tell you I was the unhappiest and most hopeless and least fulfilled I’ve ever been, I mean it earnestly. I knew I had to make a change and seek happiness, not chase money. I knew that if I didn’t take my shot now I would always look back and wonder “what if?”
So I took my shot, I’ve dumped essentially every penny I’ve ever saved into this and all my time and effort chasing this dream and slowly but surely, brick by brick, we are building something here that I believe will stand the test of time and provide happiness to so many doggs over our lifetime. We would love to have yall be a part of it.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Being a mortgage loan officer for a number of years allowed me to save up a little nest egg that I was going to use to buy a house but felt this was a more necessary thing to pursue. So I liquidated what I had and threw it all at this idea. We are still in our growing phase but if things continue the way they are going now I do believe we will be successful in the long term.
