We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Madelyn & Becca Love a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Madelyn & Becca, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My mother and I were talking about starting a small business, we weren’t even sure what that would entail. We started brainstorming ideas, things that could make mom life easier. One day my mom came to me, after babysitting my daughter, she explained that she could never find the burp cloth and how frustrating it was. We drew up a few ideas of how to solve this problem. My mom made a few prototypes that we used for several months. We were confident after a few months, that this would benefit parents all over the world. We took a leap of faith and started our shop on Etsy and eventually evolved, making our own website. We have since then, perfected the Piper Cloth and launched our shop in hopes to be a successful business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We knew that there had to be a better way to keep up with the never ending problem of finding a burp cloth. Together we came up with a unique design that allows moms to always be within arms reach to a burp cloth. The Piper Cloth is an attachable organic burp cloth/nursing cover. We wanted to ensure that our Piper Cloth could be used in every stage of parenthood. Some ways our customers & supporters have used our Piper Cloth include: sweat cloth for yoga or working out, cart cover, toddler messes (boogers & dirty hands), some even use it to dry their hair or use it as a make-up cloth. We’ve even had a Physical Therapist/Massage Therapist who uses it on a daily basis to keep their hands dry & clean for clients. The uses are endless and we enjoy seeing it used in new ways.
Our shop has been open for a year and we have learned that keeping positive is key. Seeing parents use our product and truly love it, is what keeps us going. We value our customers and love the community they bring. This is more than just a small shop for us. It’s a way for us to connect with other parents, so we can all experience the beautiful messes of parenthood.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for connecting with our clients has been the ability to share and promote our product on social media. Instagram is one of our main platforms that we utilize to reach the parenting community. We post pictures, reels, and relatable content in posts and stories to capture our clients’ attention while allowing them to share our product with others.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Our relationship has been a life long one. We are a mother/daughter team.
