We were lucky to catch up with Eden Skory recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eden, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Going from an idea to the execution… That’s hands down the hardest part of starting your business. I remember when I was getting into our business there was that little voice in the back of my head running through all the things that could go wrong. The “what ifs” as I call them. “What if people judge me, what if people don’t like my content, what if people don’t like me and our products” but as I’ve done this for almost 10 years I’ve shifted my mindset when working on something to “What ifs’ but in a positive way! “What if someone LOVES this video and I make their day better because of it”, “What if someone can relate to me and that makes them feel like there’s a personal connection that helps them”, “What if I can inspire someone by posting and they get benefits from it”. It’s really about just taking that leap of faith and starting. Sometimes it can feel daunting so I always say start somewhere! You don’t have to go in 100% but you have to start somewhere. You won’t know what something could turn out to be if you never take that idea and execute it. Trust yourself and your passion for what you’re doing and go for it!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Name is Eden Skory and I am a 21 years old who co-runs a production company here in Arizona called Theskorys! Our company is a family ran business by me and 3 siblings! We started off by posting YouTube videos for fun on our YouTube channel called Theskorys and have since then branched off into many other platforms and directions! We 3 YouTube channels we consistently post on now, we’re also on TikTok as well where we make sketch comedy, we run multiple Instagram accounts, I’ve launched my own brand EdenSkory where I focus on fashion & lifestyle, we also have multiple employees outside of us 4, and have come out with several products that we in-house fulfill and source! It’s been a crazy adventure with something new every day but overall I’m working my dream life. As a kid, the idea of a classic 9-5 job never sat with me. I knew I wanted to be something that was fast paced, different every day, and unique! Let me tell you TheSkorys is all those things. Not only do I get do this all with my siblings, but we’ve also had something crazy cool opportunities because it! We’ve got to attend red carpet events, go to influencer trips (most recent one with DisneyCruise), work with awesome brands, and coolest of all have flowers all around the world that we get to connect with!
How did you build your audience on social media?
This is one of the most common questions I get asked! I get asked this by friends, family, strangers, and my answer is… Be consistent! I truly believe that consistency is the key to success. You can’t have growth if you’re only posting here and there or once in a blue moon. The way that social media algorithms work is they’re programmed to promote and reward accounts that post a lot or have a lot of engagement. They want to see people coming back to watch your content and even better engaging with your content. Instagram Reels is a great way to get your business or account in front of new eyes. Instagram right now is favoring reels over anything so if you can post at least 1 reel a day you’ll see some growth for sure. I know 1 day can seem daunting but get creative! Use sounds that fit your niche that only take a couple of minutes a day to film. And remember that it takes time to grow an audience. Yes, you can blow up overnight if you’re lucky but the reality is that’s not the case for most people! You have to put in the work and time and stay consistent.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting in your business is something that will always happen if you want to succeed in my opinion. Especially if you’re in or near the digital space that’s just the reality! For us, algorithms are always changing and shifting. What might have worked a year ago could suddenly not work! Youtube used to favor short-form content which is what we did. We would do short from scripted comedy and that worked great until…. you guessed it! They changed their algorithm and now YouTube wanted long-form content! So what did we do? Pivoted our style of videos to adapt for long-form content. We previously were doing full script tv show style content that was very hard to get more than 10 minutes of content a week meanwhile creators were uploading 25-minute vlogs 3 times a week. So, we took that scripted element but molded it into a more improved vlog. We saw that pick up in our views almost instantly. We were all scared because long form content wasn’t something that we knew of but sometimes to grow you have to shift things a little even if makes you uncomfortable.
