We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brianna Carlock a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brianna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally since I was in elementary school. I started off wanting to be an art teacher but then later realized I wanted to do more. My love for Disney was also a big inspiration for wanting to be an artist professionally. I like how the artists made each character and their environment colorful and detailed. I was so inspired to be like those creators one day.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Brianna Carlock I am a painter and a digital artist. I have an art business called Splash of Paint. Teaching people how to create wonderful masterpieces on canvas. I also create digital pieces and illustrated a book. I was born and raised in Little Rock Arkansas and reside in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Making stories come to life on a digital canvas, and expressively bringing different mediums together to make a colorful masterpiece on stretched canvas. How I got into the art business is because of my mother she believed in my talent. My mother wanted me to get out of my box more since I was a shy and quiet person. So my mom is my biggest supporter and one of the main reasons I came this far. In 2018, I was a part of the Arkansas State University Beebe Exhibition with 2 still life projects using graphite and charcoal. Also submitting art for the House of Art in 2019. I was also featured in the 2022 January Trapxart digital magazine article. I’m currently studying at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where I’m working towards my BFA degree in Studio Art with an emphasis on Painting. What I’m most proud of is the fact that each year I improve in my gift and get opportunities that I never thought would come so soon.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing the happy facial expressions on my customer’s faces when they see their idea come together on canvas. I really enjoy the positive feedback on social media as well.
How did you build your audience on social media?
This was also a struggle for me to figure out what to post, or what to say under the post to engage the viewers. I realized down the line JUST POST IT. It doesn’t matter if you only get 2 likes or if it goes viral just make sure you love what you have put your time and effort into and just post. The right people will see it. I also use hashtags and popular songs in my videos.
