Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natasha Myrick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew very early on in my life that I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally. As a young child, I tried many different extra curricular activities such as puppetry, Tae Kwon Do, dance, baton twirling, basketball, softball, etc. Nothing I tried would “stick” or become my “thing”. I grew up watching old movie musicals. I would sing along to every single song, and watch and sing on repeat. I was a part of musical theater camps. It only made sense to start taking voice lessons, too. Around that time, I also discovered cello. Music became my thing. It became what I wanted to do all day, every day. Music was my primary focus, and all I wanted to do was sing and be a singer when I grew up. My ultimate goal was to do musical theater on Broadway. Choir class and orchestra class were both such blessings in my life. I struggled quite a bit academically which made school difficult at times, but music is what made it so much better. I had the best music and drama teachers. Music and theater has always been an oasis for me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
While I do continue to have a strong passion for singing, music, and theater, I have developed my skills as a model over the past five years, as well as an actress and VoiceOver talent. I decided to pursue the entertainment industry full time a little over 5 years ago. I was introduced to a company that worked to develop Talent. Within that company, going to auditions and workshops, I was scouted as a plus size model. That began my journey to honing my skills as a model and connecting with other creatives such as photographers, hair and makeup artists, and designers. I recently began my journey as a VoiceOver talent. It has been a fun world to explore! I have a VO coach who has helped me tremendously.
I am most proud of building my brand. There has been a lot of trial and error involved, but it has all grown me and has helped me continue to learn. The industry is always changing, which means that there is always room to learn and grow. I have had many people help me along the way, such as mentors, coaches, and teachers.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have a couple of different goals and missions driving my creative journey. First of all, I see that there is so much more work to be done in the entertainment industry when it comes to inclusion, specifically for people of different body shapes and sizes. My goal is to be a part of helping spark positive change in that regard. I have such a love for all things creative, and there should be more room for ALL people in the industry, regardless of their body size. Your weight, height, clothing size, or body shape does not define your worth, nor does it define your talent. Talent comes in all shapes and sizes, and there should be more acceptance of that in the industry. My ultimate mission is to spread the love of Jesus. My faith is what keeps me afloat, helps me stay optimistic, and ultimately gives me purpose. My desire is to help others feel loved, seen, heard, and represented.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Something that non-creatives struggle to understand is that we will work toward goals for such a long time, without any tangible return right away. It can take many years to really break into the industry and be able to do it as a full time career. You hear stories about actors and musicians who work for decades without seeing any financial return. A lot of non-creatives really do not understand why we won’t just “get a real job” or “give up the dream”. Creatives are dreamers. We are visionaries. It takes a lot of resilience to stick with it. We continue on, even when it is an investment of money and time, because we love what we do and we see purpose behind it. Entertainers and creatives serve such an important and influential role in our world.
