We were lucky to catch up with Divante Guest recently and have shared our conversation below.
Divante, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve never been a very outgoing person. I never thought I would be pursuing a career in music. Let alone be as good as I am at writing and creating songs that people like. I was working on a completely different type of business at the time but I was not happy. I was praying daily to know and understand what my purpose in life was. J. Cole had just released his new album “K.O.D” & that album inspired me in more ways than one. It also has inspired many of the ideas or concepts in some of my music. If you listen carefully. I’m not where I want to be yet but I’m on the right path.

Divante, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
A little about myself is: I am a ‘90’s baby. I am a Virgo for those who care. I was born with a genetic blood disorder called Sickle Cell Anemia. How I got into my craft was fate. I come from a very musical family but I never seen myself as an artist. But I was always creative in other areas of art (drawing, fashion, painting). I feel what sets me apart from others is that my music has a message in it to spread the good word. And help lead a new generation down a path of empowerment and not destruction. I want my fans to know that I keep them in my prayers and I am now taking bookings for shows & verses at [email protected] Merch Coming Soon!!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story that illustrates my resilience is me living with Sickle Cell Anemia. It is a genetic blood disorder that causes chronic pain. There still is no cure for this disease. I was born with this disease. I have spent my entire life battling pain, in & out of the hospital. Dealing with this disease makes it hard to work a normal job, let alone live a so called normal life. Growing up I was unable to play sports or play as the other kids did. I have had to overcome a multitude of different things like addiction to depression. It is a daily fight to just function without being or focusing on pain. But the fact I have made it this far is a blessing. I want to continue to thrive and beat the odds against me. To show kids everywhere like me that even though this disease is hard to deal with there is hope to still follow your dreams and make it BIG!!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being an artist for me is when people say they love one of my songs. It makes me want to go that much harder to gain another fan. But also, when they say that I had an impact on their life and helped to bring them closer to God. Whether they know it or not.
