We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kendal Wooten. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kendal below.
Kendal , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I am so thankful to have the love and support from my parents. They have always believed in me and taught me to believe in myself. Obviously the modeling world can be harsh, but with the help and encouragement from my parents I’ve learned to love myself just the way I am. The things that I could view as flaws I’ve been able to see them as things that make me unique. And I believe a big part of that is the unconditional love and support I’ve always had from my parents.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began modeling around age 11 kind of by accident. I was a competitive cheerleader and was asked to model for a cheer brand. I fell in love with being in front of the camera and have never looked back. It’s been a long road and a lot of work, but it’s worth it to me because when I am modeling is where I feel most at home. It’s a place to express myself and just feel free.
I have been blessed to work with so many talented photographers, hair and makeup artists and designers. And hope to continue to push myself and try more new things.
I think my biggest accomplishment was being signed by Rebel Athletic Company as one of their Feature Models. They have given me many opportunities for video and photo shoots locally in Dallas. But I’ve also had the amazing opportunity to travel with them to Venice, Barcelona, Santorini, Curacao and the Amalfi Coast. It has really been a dream come true to get to travel abroad modeling their couture uniforms and even vlogging the behind the scenes which have been turned into movies. I can never thank Rebel enough for the experiences they have given me.
I have also booked several commercials through my agency and some small roles in Feature Films. Acting is fun, but modeling is my heart.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media is very time consuming and is a slow process. It’s about consistency and lots and lots of engagement. I will be honest, because my page was started when I was so young, my mom did most of the work. Truthfully, most pages of younger kids are run by their parents because they can’t legally be on some platforms anyway. But she put in countless hours following and engaging with other kids (their parents) in the industry and they all helped support and grow each others accounts. Now I just try to keep consistent and engage with my followers as much as possible. Best advice .. be consistent, stay active and be true to yourself and your brand.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The main goal driving me is that I would love to pursue modeling as a full time career. So I try to collaborate with photographers, designers and other artists as much as possible to get as much exposure and experience as I can. For me, my mission is to get to spend my life doing what I love … which is modeling.
