We were lucky to catch up with Vincent Fondale recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Vincent thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Being in a musical family, singing came naturally to me. I used that as a foundation and built upon that over the years. Songwriting, on the other hand, took a bit longer. I started writing basic, not so great songs. After awhile, I developed and grew my writing abilities, then began to create songs that are honestly some of my favorite. That being said, in my opinion, the time is really what perfects this. For some, it comes more naturally, but for others, this can take several years to develop. It all depends on the person. If I had the option to get rid of barriers I’ve faced along the way, I’d want to learn singing technique earlier. Since I started singing at a young age, vocal coaches wouldn’t teach me saying that I was too young, which, in my opinion, is not correct to learn technique. In songwriting though, barriers are only present if you put them there. If you write and continue to write, you will eventually create songs you love.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We formed as a cover band full of young kids in early 2008. This was the period in which we learned how to perform, write, and basically do all of the core things expected from a band. Once we felt like we really found our sound and had a great handful of songs, we released our first EP in 2018. This was the beginning of what really makes us different: our Epic and Theatrical Pop / Alternative core that drives both song creation and live performances. We’re super proud of both our songwriting and our ability to perform said songs with the upmost energy and precision. We love to make music that sounds and looks different from both recording and performance perspectives. In general, we just love to create things both we and others will love and connect with, and we genuinely feel as if both “The Valley In The Fog” EP we released in 2022 and the new music we’re releasing super soon meets that criteria.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe the best way to create a thriving ecosystem for music in general is for artists to support other artists and fans to go to shows and support their favorite artists whenever possible. With social media being such a huge part of the industry nowadays, live shows are more important than ever; a sort of a reminder that beyond the screen there is a real world around you to make a real connection. At the end of the day, that’s what the most rewarding part is about being an artist in my opinion, and I believe the more we as artists can focus on how to transition our music and our social media presence to the real world to the people that support us, the better the future of music will be.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A specific event that inspired me onto the path of music I’m on today is when my brother and I went to see Onerepublic, The Script, and American Authors at Blossom Music Center. Onerepublic was on their Native album tour and my brother heard about the concert on the radio. He asked me to go and I, not having been to a concert in awhile, said yes. It turned out to be the best decision I have ever made. It was hands down what made me say,” I want to do that.” and easily one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. From that point on, I wanted to share that feeling with everyone.
