We recently connected with Kyiamoni Legacy and have shared our conversation below.
Kyiamoni, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I think as business owners small or big we have all taken a risk somehow. One of the biggest career changing risk I have taken was taking the leap to create fondant cakes. In the beginning of my career I only worked with buttercream because I was scared of how my fondant work would turn out. As I first began experiment with fondant if was far fro great. I spent many nights being enraged with frustration becuase everything that could go wrong went wrong. With at least two two years of dedication and constantly working to improve my fondant work, I quickly became known for my fondant cakes as I have grown to perfect them.
Kyiamoni, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kyiamoni Legacy. I began working in the culinary industry at just 14 years old when I was given a homeschool project on what desserts can be made from a pumpkin. The very first dish I created was pumpkin bread and from there I began to take off. Starting from bread, pound cakes pies and cupcakes. I decided to be more elite and build/design custom cakes making everything from scratch. 6 years later I have attracted a very large audience winning many awards for culinary excellence. I love to tell a story through my cakes leaving my viewers with a piece of art that cannot be identified as cake.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was not being so hard on myself early on in my career. I had alot of eyes on me and with that came plenty of criticism and pressure . Pressure to try and do everything perfect so I could wind everyone’s approval. As you grow older and wiser you realize you will never have everyone’s approval and that’s okay.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started my Instagram and Facebook account back when I first began my journey at 14 years old. Building an audience came organically fast because everyone wanted to support my talent as a young entrepreneur. Maintaining and getting my name out there even more started with consistent day to day post, use of hashtags and communicating back and forth with my supporters.
Building a relationship with my audience on a personal level consisted of me sharing my personality the bad the good with my followers.
I recommend building a personal relationship with your supporters as it helps customer loyalty, consistent engagement, shares and more.
