We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Javaun Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Javaun, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
It’s crazy how through the COVID-19 season so many things have changed. Because of the pandemic, my business which launched during this period had to learn how to serve customers – without face-to-face contact. Doing that in Content Creation varies; when you go from shooting single shot spots in person with a Blackmagic Camera to Shooting these through a Zoom Call, virtually; this is definitely a scope changer for your clientele. Teaching clientele how to utilize this platform was one of my greatest challenges as a Content Creator. However; I was able to design a framework with my team to be able to approach and execute each project, remotely, at the most safest yet efficient capacity possible. By deploying a framework in our ecosystem, we were able to see economical and mental growth among many vendors and partners we worked with to accomplish the final image.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I originally moved to Atlanta from Miami, Florida. I graduated from Coral Springs High School and decided to pursue a career in Production. After completing High School, I completed a Production Internship at a Mega Church, known as Church by the Glades where I had the opportunity, 8 hours a day, to learn the in and outs of Production from Lighting, Video to Audio and Stage. Ever since I was a child, I have always been drawn to Production and every aspect that it has to offer.
When I got to Atlanta, I originally got into the club life and promoting events and curating weekly parties for an Interim time and really didn’t value my goals or the life that I wanted to have.
After leaving the club scene, running weekly events at various clubs local to Atlanta such as Tongue & Groove, Ace Atlanta, Medusa Lounge ATL, I decided to buckle down and begin finding work within Production Fields local to Atlanta and networked a-far.
I started my Full-Time Production Career in 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. My first assigned contract was at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, a local megachurch in Georgia led by Dr. Jamal Bryant a known #BLMLeader, as a Content Creator – responsible for being a Camera Operator, Lighting Tech., B-Roll Operator, and Editor for various tasks. During that period, I also edited for several other clients across the nation varying from talk shows, interviews, youtube vlogs, etc. In addition to that, I had the opportunity to serve as a Lighting Director for various other Production Companies – such as Funkfest 2021 and CMG Takeover 2021 located in Detriot.
My tasks and experiences go further than I can quote. Though I knew the consequences of getting into a fast-moving and changing field – I have made it a journey to always remember and cherish and be thankful for.
Since then, now, in 2022, two years later, since I’ve moved to Atlanta – I have been able to open my own Content Creation brand that focuses on consulting, editing, and producing high-quality content for various clients, far and near.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Don’t be afraid to tell the world your truth, and your truth doesn’t have to be off-rip seen by 100-Hundred Thousands of people. Focus on gaining the attention of people who are attracted to you and what your brand produces and build a platform off of that. Here’s some advice; your social media is the public framework for your platform. As long as you set the foundation, let the message you are looking to broadcast filtrate through the internet. Through good marketing, consistency, and content, people will flock to your brand. We often forget as Content Creators that we are Content Creators; go out there and make some content!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Have a system! As a Content Creator; or any given Entrepreneur – you have to know what system works for your clients. Building simple, yet customized systems that tailor to your client’s needs & demands will ensure that you keep a positive relationship with current and existing clients; but will allow you to learn with those clients what keys & assets became useful so therefore your following clients have the process of (1) getting to know you but (2) utilize your products at ease. Being on the business side of Content Creator; we don’t too much feel the process of “Getting Started” or “Getting to know my Videographer”; we are often found in these moments being on the opposite side delivering this. Your most effective goal is your system. Once you know how you want to tailor to clients, the process in which you plan to do so, and the execution you plan to deliver from the such system – this will allow your team and business to expand.
