We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tommi Sue Homuth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tommi Sue below.
Alright, Tommi Sue thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I always loved the security of a corporate position; salary, bonus, benefits, company car, paid vacations and since my husband was a realtor, I provided the insurance. When he had health issues, a heart attack at the age of 48, and a second heart attack at the age of 50, it became very clear, I would continue to work for a company with the necessary health benefits. My career in banking in the 90’s had been very good, but going into the next decade, things were changing with corporate America, and banks were becoming more profit centered and less customer focused, my job was not enjoyable, management continued to change, once a high ranking commercial banking executive, I was shuffled to a lower position, and was very unhappy, I changed to another bank, which was a terrible mistake, and I was miserable with the management, and the position. I was reluctant to change or consider a move due to the need for insurance. I became so despondent, I was contemplating suicide, knowing this was not the answer, I went to my physician, who directed me to a therapist, and after discussing my situation with her, I went into a mental health facility for the treatment of severe depression. I remember meeting with the psychiatrist, who asked me, so you are thinking of killing yourself over not having health insurance? When he said it like that, it seemed like an unreasonable response to a solvable situation. He was very helpful in uncovering some deep issues about underlying insecurities. We discussed solutions, my strengths, and how to change the future. After my stay, I was focused on making changes, and determined to live my best life. With the support of a loving husband, we sold our home, I got my real estate license, moved to our beautiful lake home, and we moved our real estate brokerage to the Lake Texoma area.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We consider ourselves to be solutionists, there is always a solution for any issue that comes up, and it is our job to find the right solution. We have someone that wants to sell a property and someone that wants to buy the property and how can we work it out together to make it a good situation for all parties involved. We have people who may not have the money to get their property in top shape to sell, but we know quality and licensed people who can help get their properties ready to sell, and they can pay at closing. We are proud that we help people find their first home, by putting them in contact with qualified lenders who know about the special lending programs for hometown heroes, like teachers or first responders, and we know about VA assumable mortgages, which can be very favorable in this higher interest rate market. We also offer leasing for those who need a rental property. We offer commercial real estate expertise with historical buildings. We are proud of our community involvement from volunteering with the Texoma Homeless Shelter, MasterKey Ministries, DAWG (Denison Animal Welfare Group), Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Master Wellness Volunteer for Agri-Life and serve on the Main Street Board of Directors for Denison and Sherman, TX. We received the Small Business of the Year Award from the Denison Chamber of Commerce for our Community Involvement.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our best source of new clients comes from our existing clients, we receive referrals from our investors, our tenants, and our home buyers and sellers. Good Google reviews send clients our way.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Entrepreneurs are fascinating people and I love to hear their stories of how they got started in the business, so I began a series of videos of #takeitfromtommi, highlighting entrepreneurs in our community. They are not professional quality, and I don’t edit them, but they are live, and they are real. A woman started a fried pie business in her home, and became very successful, so busy that she opened up a shop, and was selling thousands of handmade pies and at local farmers’ markets. She eventually sold the shop and bought another business. Another business owner came to this country with only a rug from Iran, worked in a pizza shop, eventually bought the pizza business, sold that business and opened a very successful Soccer store and now has four Soccer stores. Hard working people living the American dream. Promoting other businesses and buying from other business owners helps my business.
