We were lucky to catch up with Shawandie Beale recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shawandie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Coming up with the idea for my business came by mistake. What started as a conversation with a friend regarding Singleness, turned into prayers, then turned into an idea for a blog in 2016. We were so excited about it. Then we talked about merchandise. I said, “Worthy Without a Ring, would be a great idea for a T-shirt brand, without realizing it was the perfect name for the blog. My friend stopped me and said “ Do you realize what you just sad? That’s it. That’s the name of the blog.” So I began writing. Of course that came with a lot of learning, overcoming technical insecurities and do-it-yourself elbow grease.
Along the way, I realized I was pulling a lot of my experiences from my days of singleness, where the Lord groomed me and helped me to become whole. I became more and more passionate about wholeness because I realized that if it wasn’t for my single season, I would be struggling as a wife. Worthy Without a Ring means being O.K. in the season you’re in— as long as you know yourself. It’s about not judging or identifying yourself based on your relationship status.
Your single season should not wasted by obsessing about anything, especially about getting married. Your future husband benefits most when you have done the work with God to become whole. Wholeness does not mean perfection. It means, you know your tools and you know how to connect with yourself and connect with God and you have confidence in your identity versus having your identity based on marriage, work, children, or other roles and influences.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a blogger, a coach, and an author under the Worthy Without a Ring brand. The problem I solve is, first, helping women to realize that they may be operating in life outside of their true identity. I help them to find, unravel, and then rip off false identities that they have believed due to trauma, culture and other influences.
After that, we work on rebuilding and finding her true narrative. Most importantly, I teach and give the tools needed to flourish in identity for the rest of their lives. Life happens, but we do not have to be at mercy of what happens to us- not when we know ourselves.
I write helpful articles on my blog and I offer a signature coaching program. And I also promote these principles in my Journey to Wholeness Activity Journal available on Amazon.
I think what sets me apart from others is I fully understand the importance of using your tools every…single…day- which I do in my personal life. Because of that, and my past experience, I can hold a woman’s hand and walk her through how to live a life of authenticity, purity, and confidence.
I want women to know that it is possible- possible to love yourself, overcome peer pressure, and love life. Flaws and all, you are worthy and loved and you have a purpose. The world is at a loss if you are not being who God created you to be.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
There is a lot of information out there about what you should do and how you should do it. One of the things I had to unlearn is that there is not a a formula that works across-the-board. I believe to be an entrepreneur you have to trust in yourself, and trust in your story. I believe that as seasons change, you have permission to pivot, while still being visible. Having a content planner may work for a season, but it is not necessary all the time. You don’t have to figure out what the masses need and how they need it. Always have fun with what you are sharing. Be confident in it and that will exude to your audience. This is also the best way to be consistent- be authentic and truly love what you are sharing and doing.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Getting on social media for my blog started off very innocently; I had no big goals. Matter of fact, I was still active on a personal account. I pondered for a while on if it was OK for me to have two accounts. I finally realized that my brand is “me”. So I got rid of my personal account and started focusing on sharing my life on my, now, business page.
My biggest advice on staying consistent on social media is, one, follow other accounts that inspire you so that you can re-share content that already speaks your language. And, two, I’ve found that professional brand photos make it easier to be ready to post at any time. Lastly, follow potential clients who may be a good fit for your business. When they see your story on social media, they will follow back if they find something on your page that resonates with them. You have to go and find them first. Don’t just sit back and wait for the people to come to you.
