We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pamela Henkelman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pamela below.
Pamela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’m a Midlife Mindset Coach for Moms where I help Christian moms navigate their changing roles with their children so they can have stronger relationships.I wanted to reach moms with adult children because they’re mostly unsupported once their kids reach adulthood. They struggle to find purpose after motherhood. Many try to control their grown kids. They don’t know boundaries and healthy communication.
I’m a Mindset Coach, speaker, writer, and host of The Midlife Momma Podcast. I focus my business on coaching midlife moms. They come away with fresh purpose, renewed energy. to let go, and ways to practice boundaries and healthy communication.
I chose this niche because this population is underserved. I love when moms come away from our sessions with renewed hope and the ability to move forward into some of the best years of their lives. Motherhood as they knew it may be over, but midlife is simply a pivot into something wonderful.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a mother of five adult kids and have been married to my hubby, the pastor, for 35 years. We have spent over 20 years in ministry serving others. It’s this heart that I bring to midlife moms. I know her because I was her. I know how she struggles to let go. I understand her fear of the future and wondering what to do after motherhood.
I’m a natural encourager and empathetic listener, which are fantastic qualities for a life coach. My one-on-one coaching is a favorite because I love to see clients have those ah-ha moments. I love to see them break free of old patterns and have courage to try something new.
I love producing The Midlife Momma Podcast where I provide small nuggets for moms to try. I keep the episodes short so she can come away with one thing to improve her relationship with her adult child. I’m an enthusiastic, compassionate, and gracious host.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I almost didn’t start writing or podcasting because I had zero tech skill. I was terrified of every program I needed to learn and use to run my business. I cried a lot, got frustrated, but I never quit. I eventually adapted a learner mindset, which gave me permission to just be a learner. I didn’t need to know everything. With patience and practice I would figure it our. Google became my best friend, and when I doubted my ability, I just kept trying. Resilience is necessary in every facet of life and business. We only get better with practice and repetition and a “can do it” attitude.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started writing in 2018 I stuck with broader themes of faith, but everyone kept telling me I needed to niche down and I was afraid. But as my writing friend said, “you gotta rip of the bandaid” and I pivoted to writing, coaching, and podcasting for moms with adult children. It was the best pivot I ever made. I feel utterly blessed to support these moms. When they slide into my DM’s or respond to my emails and a coaching session, they’re always appreciative. They the reason I show up everyday.
