Madison, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I have always been an entrepreneurial spirit – from donut stands in my driveway at six years old to bracelet making at 10 to creating photo slideshows for events at 12. I have always loved having a business or a project to work towards. But the most influential business endeavor in my life was when my family bought an adventure resort in Northeastern Wisconsin when I was 12 years old.
By the time I was 14, I was taking phone call reservations and managing their social media profiles. By 16, I was guiding high adventure activities with groups of people. And by the time I was 17, I was the Operations Manager of a team of 30, putting almost 20,000 people on activities in the summer. This only radiated my love for business, entrepreneurship, and the outdoors.
I went to college and got two business degrees. While in college, I started managing other local businesses’ social media profiles because, naturally, I needed another project to work towards. I had someone ask me if I would teach their team what I was doing and the strategy I was following, and I fell in LOVE with consulting. Fast forward to today, I have a business that I love dearly that has allowed me to help over 150 other people chase their passions and freedom in small business, and I have traveled to over 25 states in the last 12 months while working remotely – truly living that freepreneur lifestyle & helping others learn how to them same This is the perfect blend of my entrepreneurial & adventurous spirit to keep me going – and we are just getting started!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I help brands stand out & sell out with community-centered social media growth strategies. Our main mission is to bring accessible education, motivation, and community to small business owners everywhere so they can live their freepreneur lifestyle of their dreams. I want to make everyone feel like being an entrepreneur, chasing their passions, and living the biggest, most audacious life they desire is possible in their life.
We don’t teach algorithm hacks around here – we teach high level, science backed strategies that withstand any algorithm change & platform update. We believe in organic growth to start, building a community of ride or die customers, & then massively expanding your audience size to naturally integrate new followers to customers.
The basis of what we teach is called the Freepreneur Lifestyle – a perfect blend of structure, strategy, & hard work, mixed with a focus on autonomy, freedom, & flexibility. Because we started our businesses to be more free, not to be strapped to it – no matter your personal definition of freedom.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Switching your mindset from growing an “audience” to growing a community – stopping focusing SO much no have 4,5,6 digit numbers and engagement and just trying to connect, collaborate, and communicate with people genuinely. Too often, we focus just on having sheer numbers at first – don’t get me wrong, business IS a numbers game – BUT when you’re starting it much more about creating a close knit group of people for new followers to integrate into & obsess over your business with!
YES – numbers 1000% matter for your growth and sales, BUT if you just focus on connection & community rather than the vanity metrics of numbers, you can make sales MUCH sooner as well as you will grow MUCH faster because those people will go to WAR for you!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Focusing SO heavily on being ME & not what everyone else is doing.
It is so easily to compare to others online and just do everything that they are doing that is seemingly working for them – BUT that will never help you stand out.
Instead, I decided on what I wanted to be known for, what business I really wanted to create, & how I wanted to make people feel as ME not just as a business and I chased that.
Because of that, people feel like they have hit the jackpot when they find something unique & different – it’s the feeling of “WOW this is exactly what I’ve been looking for”. Why?! Because they connect to YOU and not just your business and that you’re teaching.
