We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angelle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelle, thanks for joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I actually have a full-time job and that’s how I’m able to find my creative work which is my music one of the things I wish I had done was focus a little bit more on my creative side. I guess you might see the business aspect of my music that’s what I’m actually doing right now.
Angelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, I’ve been thinking since I was two years old, but I didn’t recognize I had a voice, until probably at the age of 10 is when I realize that my voice was powerful I was a child that was heavily bullied, and that caused me to create this identity, but also to use Music as my weapon because I because I knew that my voice was wrong and my attitude was loud.
Both of my uncles have success in the Haitian genre music, which hopefully them passed on, and I had vowed to myself that I would make sure that I would continue the legacy by all means my dad was also one of my biggest supporters. He truly believed in my music, he believed in my writing ability, he was fully supportive, but he also passed on. I made it my mission to I guess you must say, use their strength that they left behind or their passion that they left behind to push me further into my career.
To be honest I’ve Been through a lot a lot of up and down a lot of tears a lot of tribulation a lot of hurt. My music not only speaks for me, but it speaks for whatevwr anybody else in the world is also going through. I’ve had a little success here and there with my music, but I sit now, thinking that I should’ve capitalize in certain moments which I didn’t do. .
To be honest, I’ve had a few moments in time where I was really proud of my music I think, dropping my first recent video in 2016, was kind of like the moment of bringing the new version of me out. I was always prettier of no verbally expressive individual but I think 2016 was a year where I showed the sexy side of me completely dropped out my first ‘ Netflix and chill my first official single, to be honest, and that kind of like open up the doors for a lot for me and from then on, I dropped a couple of shingles. I got the first album in 2015 flopped but then I just dropping singles and music videos and one thing that I think works for me as an a creative person. I will see my performance. I am not a dancer, but I can move a little bit, but I can sing, and I know how to entertain a crowd, engage the crowd make the crowd feel as if they were the ones that were singing so I can say whenever the mic is handed to me, I’m able to bring life to whoever is listening and I’m able to connect whoever is listening. I think its my best attributes to My career as a singer
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2019 I had a vocal surgery after one of my greatest showcase I must say in March 2019 I had surgery May 2019 and I remember losing my voice and feeling like my life is over. I had to go to the process of learning how to sing correctly and doing vocal therapy and vocal lessons it was a very hard transition for me, but I think it was the best thing for me at the time because it actually helped my voice to get clearer, I actually had four polyps and three vocal nodules. it takes 30 days to learn a habit and it takes 30 days to unlearn to have it I think after vocal surgery I was doing so well and doing the right things but I fell back into my old habits of how I use to sing which is causing me to have another surgery. I’ve been going through a lot, but I’m resilient and strong and I know for a fact that my music will transcend overtime
