We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicky Osawa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicky, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
I would like to personalize my client’s experience by remembering their preferences and offering customized recommendations. I always keep a record of their clients’ favorite treatments, products, and styles, and use that information to offer personalized recommendations and custom services during their appointments. Im trying to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in my salon always. To offer clients a comfortable place to sit, soothing music, aroma sense, and a calming ambiance. I believe this can help them feel more relaxed and at ease during their appointment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello I’m Nicky Osawa! I’m owner of shabon salon located in North Park on 30th street and also I’m offering a range of lash extensions, lash lift, facial treatment, styling brows, and facial wax.
Ever since I was moving from Japan in 2004, I have had a passion for everything related to detailed work and beauty. When I discovered eyelash extensions, I realized I finally found my true passion!
When I started my career as a lash artist after graduating from beauty school in 2015. I’m still keeping updated on new trends of lash training not only lash extensions and keratin lash lift but also other beauty services until today.
I focus on textured lashes and I love to clean and symmetrical lash styling but l’m trying to do what each client want to get lashes their occasional style for a celebration party, wedding, graduation, maternity/family photo shoots and, the daily style for each client.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As well as reflecting on the lockdown had allowed me to look back I have never seen the situation of worldwide disease a.k.a coronavirus, I was among the salon opening the door to customers on October 15th, 2019, a few months after that San Diego county entered a new phase in the lifting of lockdown restrictions. It was a harder moment for the beauty industry especially personal care services received 3time of stay-home orders and shut down the salon door which is almost 1year I can’t take clients. But I realized understand this hardest moment can be defined as some of the happiest memories of my salon life that my loyal clients send me a lot of love and support me during the hard time.,I felt setbacks the moments but found ways to pivot my salon to succeed by them.
Throughout my beauty industry journey.
Shabon salon has many changed and become stronger than ever before.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
It all started as a hobby, when I began learning about lash extensions first, I was fascinated by the art and the process, and I started practicing on my friends and family.
As I got better and my skills improved, I learned multiple beauty services add on my skills.
Someone asks a word of mouth spread and my reputation grew, I’m honored I found myself with more and more clients.
this is the my lash artist side hustle has turned into a thriving full-time business. I have a lovely loyal clients and please welcome to see new clients.
