Hi Rex, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
One of the most outstanding truths about man is being created in God’s image! Although the emphasis has been on the logical functions of math science and technology, developing the creative side of the brain is equally important! Understanding the Universal Language of Visual Communication increases sincere expression, problem solving skills and appreciation of Life.
Rex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
In high school I was called to full time service as a visual artist. Working in unique and varied inspirations I have produced mostly acrylic paintings in a series called Biblical Truths. Dreams, visions, mystery painting processes, revelation of scripture, plein air and live painting spiritual experiences are some of the processes involved. Products range from a hand painted card of endearment through a range of sizes and subjects of paintings and murals. Creating hundreds of large interior and exterior murals includes the 30’ wide by40’ tall “The Living WORD” in the entrance of Owensboro Christian Church. As an educator I have emphasized understanding the Universal Language of Visual Communication, creative ownership & growth and increasing appreciation of Life! Sometimes I have helped first time painters give expression to personal spiritual experiences and inspirations.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Holy Bible is the greatest inspirational source for meeting needs, money management and making a positive difference in the world. Derived from scripture are the books and programs mentoring Christian artist such as the Created To Thrive by Matt Tommey.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Following Covid it was never the same. The busy location, limited walk-in traffic and general non art destination location in Western KY I sold my Visual Art Center of 7 years. Bought a truck and camper and toured a dozen National Parks. Now finishing a timeline mural near Ashville AL and responding to inspirations for the Biblical Truth series.
