We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chey Loran. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chey below.
Chey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
If I was to do anything in this world I would want people to realize how ambitious I am. Something I tend to do a lot is think about what I want to accomplish in five or even ten years for now. Sometimes I can run up all night just thinking of what I want to do in my life and what I want to accomplish. But sometimes I forget to even be grateful for my accomplishments that have happened or happening currently.
I want people to realize I am someone that would go after what I want. When coming from New York City, but specifically from the Bronx things can happen if you put your mind to it. Realize where you come from you should believe in yourself because your vision is not someone else’s journey.
I managed to build four amazing companies that all have to do with something with the entertainment industry. I never gave up when people doubted me and thought my dreams were out of reach. I hope to realize that I continue to push forward regardless of what people thought or what obstacles I had to face. I build Lost Lion Film Studios at 19 years old… I want Lost Lion to be bigger than me. I want it to be one of the major film companies in the USA and globally. I will not stop into it happens.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Four years ago, I would have never thought I would have a film company. Accomplishing something greater than myself is something I would always be grateful for. It all started when I was in elementary school, a charter school called “Bronx Arts,” where I learned to express myself through the arts. But growing up, ironically, I had a strong will for becoming a Surgeon (crazy right), while there was another side of me that just always loved acting/arts. It really became my passion when someone I personally was filming an episode for, a TV show called “The Last OG.” That experience pushed me to another level—I really wanted to try my hands in the movie industry. I didn’t know where to begin, but I knew I wanted to leave a legacy behind.
Now fast-forward three years later in 2021- I officially registered my company as an LLC, and I am now filming two feature films. And looking ahead, in 2023, I am creating a website and a streaming service on my website. I eventually want to have a streaming service of my own. I am working on a short called, ” Courage & Forgiveness” that I want to submit to many film festivals. I do have three features that I am working on this year that I am happy to announce soon, My goal is one day to win the Oscars.
I have been working on my other companies such as “Lost Lion Animations” where I have two features coming out this year and currently working on a tv series animation series. Then lastly working on “Lost Lion Entertainment and Lost Lion Originals..” where I would like to pitch some tv series ideas and create some video games from the movies that my team is creating.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Many times in my journey, I felt like people were trying to bring me down because of the companies that I was trying to start up a few years ago. There was a time I would say when I just turned 21 when I established my company, “Lost Lion Film Studios.’ Once I created this company there would be people that would text me saying “Where is the work that you’re doing? How can YOU call yourself a company when you have nothing established for yourself?” I didn’t realize I couldn’t call myself a company without getting things out there to prove to people that my company name would be something that would mark up the film industry. I also think being young at the age of 21 people thought I couldn’t accomplish a lot because they thought I was just a “kid.” I am not going to lie there have been days when I was depressed about the situation when I use to feed off the negativity of people thinking I wasn’t good enough for this type of work. But then I truly do belive, when you have a good support system you can accomplish anything. I started to belive in myself, started to get work done, and started to grow in my company not just as a CEO but also as a Director. Now, I must say, I have created four extended companies apart of Lost Lion Film Studios. All I can say is watch out for Lost Lion, we are definitely coming in a wave.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
The advice that I would give to anyone who is trying to manage a team is to have good communication with everyone you’re working with. Make sure to know what everyone on your team is good at, regarding their strengths and weaknesses. Don’t take everyone’s opinion to heart. The reason why I say this is because everyone has an opinion but when you YOURSELF as the CEO, Lead, etc… you need to understand the lead you want to take the vision too.
Regarding maintaining high morale, I truly do believe in this foundation that people that YOU associate yourself with or hang out with are a representation of who you are. If you hang out with people who don’t see the best for what you doing regarding anything you set out to be, then it would affect you. I truly believe you have to hang with people and understand that have similar interests as your common goals and many more.
