We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Underwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alicia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Acting is a craft, and I realized this the longer I was in the Entertainment industry. A lot more goes into a scene than you think. There are vocal and body warmups, breaking down a scene (and my coaches have me analyze scenes line-by-line, and rehearsal several times. It has taken me years of hard work to get to the emotional places I do as quickly as I am able now.
This craft takes discipline, sacrifice, hard work, and consistency. It means showing up even I don’t feel like it. I think at this point the only obstacle is whatever limitations I put on it. Although, I will say that I have 3 jobs and money can be an obstacle if you are not super tight and ensuring that every dollar is spent wisely. This industry will pay you plenty in every way, but you have to invest in it as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi,
I am Alicia Underwood, and I am a working actress in Los Angeles. My most notable projects to date are:
1. House Of Dolls – slasher/horror feature film releasing in 2023. Starring myself, Dee Wallace, Meekko Gattuso
2. Dhar Mann Studios – content creations company on a mission to change lives through inspirational videos. Please check out the 9 videos I’ve had the absolute pleasure of starring in. You may search my name and Dhar Mann Studios on YouTube and IMDb for the list of video titles.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Wow, what a great question! I have always felt like there is something bigger than me and I’ve had a strong sense of purpose since I was a child. I feel like a fish out of water if I am doing anything else other than acting. My sensitivity is my actors’ gift which has taken me a long time to be settled and feel okay with.
This profession is most rewarding because I am learning to be fully alive and embrace every aspect of my humanity. I get to connect with other humans and play pretend all day.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I didn’t start this journey with a particular goal or mission other than finding myself and my purpose. What makes my heart come alive. I did start discovering other goals deep within along the way and this includes writing and publishing a children’s book and it’s highly likely that I will adopt from overseas.
