We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Stouffer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.
Hannah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about making remote work effective.
I think the way that H+ Creative was built up from the beginning, focusing on the importance of representing artists with a strong personal practice- no matter their geographic location, set us up to be made for remote work as a whole. I have always thrived with the freedom that comes along with being a full-time, remote creative, and in starting H+, I didn’t want that to change. Just because you work regular(ish) hours, run a business and work as a team, doesn’t mean that it can’t be done 100% fully remote, so that everyone can benefit from the freedom that comes along with it.
We represent a highly diverse, international group of artists from across the globe, and while our internal team is all based in Los Angeles, we spend the majority of our interactions remotely over chat, email or various management apps. I do really value in person, face to face time, and we do so regularly. We are also all free to live our own lives, travel for pleasure or family, handle our own separate creative or personal needs and as long as the work is met, being fully remote is highly preferred by everyone. It really lends itself to a life / work balance and allows us all to, you know… live.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The initial jump off was in 2015, with a showcase of artists I curated for an exhibition at Art Basel Miami. That initial showcase was featured under the name H+ Creative, and I had intention of building it up to be more than just a curation platform for visual artists, Today, H+ Creative is a Los Angeles based artist representation firm and visual services studio, focused on the future of creative media through vibrantly executed imagery. We are honored to support a tight-knit roster of diverse international artists and partner on projects across the globe.
We are a woman owned and operated boutique creative studio with a sustainable focus and diversity model that I really strive for. We work directly with clients and collaborators, supporting a range of talented artists specializing in everything from digital to traditional illustration, motion, 2D, 3D, CG, AR everything in between. We handle creative both in-house and through our extensive team of creatives who are truly considered to be the best of the best.
As founder and Director, I aim to create experiences centered on client connectivity through the future of visual production. My history in commercial illustration and fine art guided both the direction and talent of the agency, with my curatorial hand in all parts of the creative selection process. It’s been extremely gratifying to watch it all unfold and been the go-to creative agency for some of the biggest brands, companies and artists in the world.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have come to realize that my ability to offer my experience, energy, expertise and resources is one of the most fulfilling parts of my mission, not only with H+ Creative, but also with what it, and I, will continue to become. The sub-branches of the mission strive to offer a highly sustainable presence, a focus on inclusion and diversity, and an agency that exists truly for the betterment of us all.
I’m always really excited about how the future will unfold with my ‘bigger picture goals’, of course with H+ in mind, but also as a part of my personal creative journey. I think there is a lot of value in not giving the full reveal, rather continuing to put in the effort and action needed for these larger missions to be fully realized. As cryptic as that may seem, or is, there are goals and missions driving my creative journey personally and with H+ that I consider often. It’s a very intentional forward course that I’m really excited to actualize.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
In starting H+ Creative, I was making an intentional shift from my long time working career as a fine and commercial artist and illustrator, to the founder and director of a highly curated visual agency, knowing that my role would transform from being in the spotlight as an artist to the support system for other visual artists.
It has been an interesting and extremely rewarding transition approaching the projects that we take on from a different angle, as the Director rather than the artist. My main objective is to offer support to our artists, and to assist them with everything they need in order to create the best possible creative work for the clients. It’s extremely rewarding to watch their creative flourish and the excitement that comes along with seeing the work develop, and then witness the reward of catching it in use in the wild by the client.
When I was a full time creative, I was really invested in the personal, meditative introspection that came with the dedication to a creative output. I find that in other ways now, with a smaller percentage driven by creating. The reward with H+ comes from being a part of the process and witnessing the incredible output that H+ artists are capable of. It is an incredible honor to be able to contribute to the success of their work, the projects and the presence of visual creative existing in the world as a whole.
