Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Semline Singleton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Semline, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Sharing anything about yourself in a public space is scary. What are people going to think? Am I putting myself out there too much? Is what I’m sharing relevant? All these questions raced through my mind as I worked on my 21-day celibacy guide for women. For almost four years, I rededicated myself to God and wanted to write about the journey and create a direction to help other women. Writing my story required so much vulnerability and transparency. I knew my story could be received positively or negatively. The risk was putting this guide out there, hoping it would sell and the message would be positively received. I created a launch event, invited family and friends, and officially launched Overcoming: A Woman’s Guide to Celibacy. The level of support is still blowing my mind. I know there is so much more to come from this, and I’m glad I took the risk.

Semline, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Semline (Sem-Leen) Singleton. I am a second-generation Haitain immigrant, a lover of God, a wife, sister, and friend. How did I become a Christian blogger and Content Creator? God pressed on my heart to start writing about my journey with Him, life, and everything in between. I knew that part of writing blogs was marketing my posts and sharing details about them through social media; that’s when the content creation came in. My mission is to motivate, educate, and encourage a generation pursuing the fullness of God. I am open to speaking engagements. I also offer free one on one prayer sessions with anyone looking for community or who needs prayer and guidance. I am proud of the two things I created, a stationary journal and a 21-day celibacy guide for women published and on sale on Amazon.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is not seeing God as a punisher to the point where I feel unworthy to know Him or be in His presence. I grew up in a church culture that did not see God as a loving God but as an obligation to fulfill specific requirements to receive His love. I thought my servitude in the church and all the volunteering I was doing was enough; all the while, I was left empty most times. My college years were when I started to seek God outside of my culture and what I knew. I was exposed to a different side of Christianity that drew me in rather than pushed me out. I took part in conversations, asked questions, and read the Bible to get a complete picture of how much God loves me. It is the main reason I became a Christian blogger. I write about unlearning so much, how I did it, and what my habits are now to continue unlearning and learning.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes! The life that I have, the joy and peace I experience daily, is because of my walk with God. All I want to do is share it and help others believe it. That they, too, can experience this feeling. I also LOVE building a community, meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and sharing my testimony.
