We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Teresa Suydam. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Teresa below.
Teresa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
A lot of my meaningful projects have involved working with other people. Collaborating is something I never knew I could find joy in until I tried it. For instance, I have a song coming out with a good friend of mine, Tyler McMaster. Our song is called “Under the Lights”, and from start to finish, was completed entirely remotely. We met at a virtual songwriter conference where we joined a songwriter group; and from there we started writing together and then producing the song we had written. Only zoom calls and phone calls! Now we have an amazing song that we are so proud of.

Teresa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a cross culture artist and songwriter who writes cinematic pop music. I love epic swells, and hard hitting drops; and my music all centers around my vocals, which have been described as “honey-like”. I write music, produce music, as well as teach private music lessons. Basically, from sun up to sun down is music, and I couldn’t be happier about that.
I guess the main thing I want people to know about me is that music is my lifestyle. I work long hours, spend my own money to produce songs, and work every day because that fulfills me. It’s the most tiring yet rewarding thing. People should also keep their ears open to hear my music in tv and film! I have some representatives that I’m very excited about.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that I shouldn’t work in what I’m passionate in. If I wasn’t doing music I know I wouldn’t be happy. I always thought I had to get the highest paying job, work 5 days a week, live for the weekend, etc. But I did that for a time and I was absolutely miserable. Even when I took the leap into music, I had to catch myself and re-work my mindset. I got deeper and deeper into music, understood the complexity, and took on more of the independent artist mentality, I realized how much fun I was having.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Creating things from the heart and seeing how people resonate with it has been the most rewarding feeling. People have come out of the woodworks to tell me how my songs made them feel. Like I mentioned earlier, I have a song out February 24th, and that song has been in the works since 2021. All of my songs are a labor of love, and I get the utmost joy out of watching them succeed in the world.
